Hmm. Some of my favourites aer, Marius, Giselle. (That clarinet hours thingy was amazing. :D), Spirit of Music had some pretty good stuff.

I like alot of MY stuff. Haha.

I'm really liking my compositions right now. I feel as I have found the type of music I want to compose for the couple of pieces I am writing right now. It feels amazing to be instantly pleased with something, rather than questioning it and picking it apart. But I guess both ways are good for composing.

Is it really that wrong to think that you are the best composer here? I mean, if you didn't like what you wrote, then why write it? I'm not saying that by thinking you are the best composer, you think you are the most skilled or the most knowledgeable (which I definitely don't think I am) - just that you like your own music the most.

Is it really that wrong .... just that you like your own music the most.

No, I'm sure that many people listen to their own music so much that they come to know it well and love it. I like to go through my sketchbook sometimes and feel good when I see a drawing I'm particularly proud of, even if I know that there are many greatly talented artists in the world that are producing works that are far superior. There's an extra feeling of joy and pride at seeing/hearing something that you remember putting all the hard work into. There's nothing wrong with that!

I like my music a LOT. I don't think I'm the most talented here. I like like my music the most. Maybe it's becuase here where I live, everyone's the same, boring with the same talents as everyone else. and I can compose music, which no one else here can do.

If I said anything like that, everyone would flame me.

haha! You're probably right though...

It's about as erroneous a thought as thinking 'X' is the 'best' type of food. As not everyone likes the same types of foods, so it is with music - a matter of taste. And as such, there is no such thing as 'best'.

'Best','superier','most talented' etc only make sense if there is a standard with which to judge them by. Obviously, not everyone agrees on the standard, else there wouldn't be all kinds of different music that suit people's tastes.

As far as favourite YC composer - I haven't heard nearly everyone's work in order to ciphen out who I like most - or even if I'd want to narrow it to one. But so far I'm enjoying works by Nico, Lee, and the baroque composers: BE and bakhtiyar the most - certainly because the styles they write in are my favourites and all of them have talent in them.

I vote for Nightfly (man, I'm still stuck with the "A New Beginning"), chopin and bakhtiyar!

Hmmm..... my favorites here are probably Nico, Evan, J. Lee Graham, and Marius.

:pinch:

Onearmedbandit, the one who wrote the alpine overture, and many other stuff that'n on sibeliusmusic, marius. Those two really stick out the most.

Nico, Marius, Mitchell especially.

Nicola, Nightfly, and Marius.

To bring up someone a little off the beaten path, I'd have to say Torsten Brandes.

His Symphonische Kantate is amazing!

I have listened to alot of good pieces on this forum, but if I had to have [a favorite contributor(s) I'd have to go with Marius, Nico, J. Lee Grahm, and Berlioz.

Musically, my favorites are Daniel, Nickthoven and theshroud13.

Oh, and scrhoeter.

Everyone gets an equal share of love, though.. ;)

Mark Moya and Andrew Hsieh

To know the music of everyone on the site is probably necessary in order to answer this question fairly, however, I do not even know the music of half the people. Of the people that I have heard, my favorites are Nico, Marius, John Carey, and Chopin. I may be forgetting someone that I do know. I do not think so, but I might think of someone else later. John Carey is the underknown of this group and I wish that more people either knew about him or bothered to recognize him.

By the way, others have had great pieces as well. By me leaving them off the list means nothing of their level of greatness as a composer. For instance, Evan was wonderful on Backwater Isle with Marius. Yet, I have not listened to much of his music on his own so I would not know.

Thanks for the mention! To those interested in my music, all of it that has been recorded is available on my website (www.johncareycompositions.com). I have also posted threads for my first two symphonies and piano concerto. I most recently posted my Symphony No. 2 here, and would be very grateful for any feedback I can get! As for my favorite composers on this site, many have impressed me. I find that the ones that I like the most are the ones that, to me, have the most distinctly original styles. A certain Mr. Edward stands out to me as being one of my absolute favorites here. Among others are Lee and Nico. The amount of talent is astounding!
