The Barbaric Battle Suite

Something fitting to a battle scene, containing two separate themes. Hope you like it

The Barbaric Battle Suite

EDIT: I'm a new member here. I would appreciate if anyone could listen to my music and review it.

Hey Judas. Welcome to YC! Sorry for getting to your pieces so late. If you want advice on getting more feedback for your works, go to the top of the game and film music section and click on Marius' article, "Tips for Getting More Feedback" Very helpful stuff.

Nifty piece. What did you use to compose it?

Nice change at 1:40. Good beat throughout this section.

2:40 was a nice little interlude with the strings. if you have made it just a little longer, it'd be pretty fun cuz it's a cool line.

'Nother good change at 3:00. It's good practice having a long track that can switch emotions often. Plus, it's a strong demonstration of your talent if one piece has so much variety.

5:17 is where it starts to feel like a battle. Lotsa tension. I'd extend 5:24 for like 4 or 8 bars. To create a sense of battle, we need the mood to be tense for a little bit, rather than just a fleeting bar of fighting.

It's a strong piece. Nice work on it.

Overall, you should turn your piece up. Try listening to it on a comfortable volume, and then put on this,

Your orchestra needs to match the sound of this piano, if not surpass it.

Nice having you on YC, Judas. Check out that article I mentioned earlier and go check out some other composers =)

Peace,

-John

Lots a plugins were used in this, but I made the piece with guitar and keyboard. Thank you about your comment!

Hey Judas. Your piece is pretty sweet. Especially when the tempo picks up and you develop that pulsing rhythm. The parts in between "battles" lose me just a little bit. I think maybe I'd like it to build up a bit quicker or here the melody switch over to some different timbres (the horn and string combo sounds pretty predominant here). Overall, really nice though. Welcome to YC! :)

I must add that I don't really know anything about orchestration, just doing whatever sounds good to me. I would like to learn it though, I have discovered that it is a vast subject and something that takes time to learn properly... I just hope the orchestration is not as bad as I think!

You're welcome, Judas. Orchestration is definitely a daunting subject. As much orchestra music as I try to write, I certainly can't claim to have a true grasp of its rules and theory. Mostly I just listen to a lot of orchestral music and, like you, just write what sounds good to me. In any case, if you're interested in studying it, the Garritan website has a great free online course new_windowhere .

All the Best,

Jake

Okay, for some reason that link isn't going where I told it to, so I'll just paste the url here: http://www.garritan.com/index.php?option=com_wrapper&view=wrapper&Itemid=34
