March 19, 201115 yr Hey Not a bad piece. It got a little boring in parts but the length was good. I don't know what you've got going on with your bass drum writing.. perhaps that's some concert band thing I don't know about. The title. Pax means peace, not peace and joy. It seems that's what your title is saying.
March 19, 201115 yr Author I'm aware of the translation of Pax. But Peace can bring about joy, and is often associated with the feeling of joy. And, as far as I'm aware, my bass drum writing is the standard style for marching bands/drum corps.
March 19, 201115 yr Good piece, i agree with Mr. Pax though. Also, your horn part is way too high. I would considering changing the key perhaps.
March 20, 201115 yr Author How is the horn part way too high? The horn goes up to Concert F, does it not? I've made sure that that's as high as I go. And this piece is for Drum Corps anyway, an activity in which players are often asked to play beyond what is considered their normal ability.

High notes are very sharp on horn, and yes drum corps players are usually required to play high but that is usually for trumpet and low brass since it is much more practical to play higher extremes on those horns. But there is a high concert D in measure 1. a high concert d e and f in measure 6 and basically everywhere else the horn is featured. Also, D Major isn't really a practical band key even for drum corps.
April 11, 201114 yr Author After much ado, I've changed it. It's in B-Flat now, the horn part is therefore lower, I've fixed it up a little beyond that sort of thing, and I sincerely apologize for any snappiness that may have come across.
