Illuminated Meadows

Featured Replies

Hello all!

This is the second piece of a new collection of piano pieces I am currently working on. As with a lot of my piano pieces, it has no meter while for the dynamics only a very general direction is given. Space, either notational, temporal, musical or dimensional, is a crucial element of the piece.

This is really good, and the recording is amazing.

as usual by alexander the great space cadet, beautiful

I now have to make it my life's goal to build a device 10 meters high that is invisible and can support a piano and pianist, so he/she can play this at 6:00 in the morning

Seriously, though, this is a very atmoshperic piece, and it is definitely very ''spacey''. I think my only major negative comment would be: why a D# #9 at the end of page 29? To me, it sounds very jarring. Otherwise, I'm off to my toolshed ;)

Thank you all for listening and for your comments!

Paranoidfreak, I can't figure out which point in the score you mean where it sounds off. Perhaps the quadruplet at the end of page 2...?

I know my directions sound unrealistic, but it is exactly the way I want this piece to be performed. I guess if it is ever going to be performed I will have to wait a couple of decades more till they discover antigravity. :)

yup.

This piece is really spacy -- I love the ambient feel, yet it's tightly controlled. The score is great, easy to follow, though i don't know how well someone else would get what you did out of it.

I feel the in-joke about levitation isn't really needed to draw attention :P

I'd also say nix that line for the pedal marking... what isn't it a * that ends pedal instructions?

That ending is pretty baller. Ties it up really nicely.

Hello both!

ParanoidFreak, the quadruplet is indeed a bit unexpected as far as its harmony at least is concerned. This point personally creates to me a surreal feeling...

Ferkungamabooboo, one of the reasons most of my pieces don't have a meter is to give more flexibility to the performer. Because of that, one performance from another is expected to vary greatly which I find very interesting. I see your point regarding the pedal marking. Alternatively I could also write sempre con pedale, I guess. The levitation thing is not a joke, by the way. The musical source is to be above the ground for both musical and visual effects. I would even go as far as to consider the clouds and the meadow part of the musical piece and not just the setting...

Thanks for listening and for commenting!
