Jungle Jam

Featured Replies

I would've put this in Jazz, but it was more for a video game like theme, so I'm posting it here. If it needs to be moved, move it. ;)

Anyway, this is basically a Latin sounding MIDI piece I did last night in MIDI. I was bored, but it sounds really cool. A lot of key changes, in my opinion.

Oh, and the title isn't it's its real title, so DON'T ASK!

Enjoy... :) And tell me what you think.

Pretty cool. Substitute the cheesy drums for some that sound less like, well, .midi and I really can't say anything negative about this piece.

I enjoy the melody and the various themes you stick in. Especially at 1:12 or so. Pretty damn sweet. And you maintain the feel of the piece well throughout, kind of dancy, eerie, happy, and kind of glorious.

I don't like the ending so much, but as it is game music it'll loop, right?

Anyway, great piece. I'd love to hear this in a more realistic sound.

I really like this piece. Eventhough you said that "jungle jam" wasn't the real title. I think it is

fitting. I suppose it does sound what one could consider "junglesque". I really like the piece around

:52. When I listen to it do feel as I'm playing some kind of videogame, I just don't know what one.

Anyway, nice piece!

I think he meant the survivor mata thing...

Come on people, listen and reply! This is a good song.

Hey I just had to listen to this after seeing the quality of your replies :) and I must say that I'm extremely impressed by the complexity of your piece. I can't fault anything at all. The only thing I can heap is praise ;). This is excellent work man. I have never attempted to build up a fastpaced beat like yours and I have my doubts in doing this as good as you. I just don't know how you've done it ;). Any secrets you could tell us would be awesome!

Wow, frk'n awesome. I was tapping my foot the whole time. It's pretty sweet how you manage to make this so...dancable. It must be the drums. However, I agree with CK that the ending isn't working too well. I feel like it comes too fast. How about you extend the ending a little more? Other than that, this is probably the best song I've heard so far in this style. I'm listening again!

Well, I'm a percussionist, so anything and almost everything I write uses lots of percussion. The vibraphone-marimba line in the first half of the song I got by just fooling around.

The ending was kind of rushed, cuz I was up to almost midnight writing this song, and my mom wanted me to go to bed, and I had to finish before I went to sleep, so i just tacked an ending on to the end.

Thanks for the reviews! :D

_EDIT> For extending the ending, would you suggest stretching out the part with the strings and french horn, or just adding a bit more before it? Or both?

i love this piece, i think its amazing, like playing a Megaman game =)

i'd like to know though, how do you know when to but dotted eightnotes and all those complex notes(for me)

do you use a metranome or something?

idk im just wondering.

Here's what I think you should do - considering I was like "YES!" whenever I heard the horn come in, add more to the horn and strings section at the end. Only this time, with a trumpet on top. Maybe a brass section patch, maybe just midi patch 56, whatever floats your boat. Once that is over, add something like the choir part at 52 seconds if you know where that is. Make a lot out of this and end it. Maybe use some tubular bells (chimes), I think that would fit perfect.

One time I listened through this, I randomly started playing my crytal flute because I was too lazy to put it down in the first place. I can up with a cool lick that might add a little to one section. I'm trying to find out where that is....

huh....

...I never expected to see this thread again....this was like, from a year ago...

Anyhow, I was thinking about extending the horn/strings section, but I never could decide how to do it.

Oooh, a crystal flute, nice....!:P

As for the complex rhythms, I'm a percussionist, and before we learn notes, we learn rhythms, so I guess it's kind of second-nature.

That vibraphone-marimba thing in the first half of the piece was my just throwing in random notes.

Of course it is. I wrote it.

Lol, kidding. The woodblock part didn't really come out in the midi...If you listen closely at that sitar/strings part you can kinda hear it pounding out a sixteenth note pattern....

That piece of music is extremely annoying, which means that it's PERFECT for a video game. (First part was a joke..... half joke... :P)

I can just imagine kids sat in front of a computer for hours on end, staring at the menu screen, totally hypnotized by that piece of music being repeated over and over and over.

Good scraggy

Lol, nifty, I like the ending. I'm not really a pianist, but there's no way I could play that melody in the right hand with that two-note thing in the left (top two staves). My mind doesn't work like that, lol.

I haven't listened to this in such a long time, at first I thought the beginning was kinda random. But now I get it. Nice!
