Crystalline

Featured Replies

Crystalline for SATB choir, solo clarinet, and piano. Lyrics by me, Kristen Krikorian, and Patrick MartinMP3 is a bit outdated :P

I'm just going to get right to the point. It sounds very very cool. The main problem I have with this is the clarinet part. First the octave that the clarinet is written in right now is terrible if your working a choir. An mp3 probably sounds better than any clarinet player could ever play it. Note: I am transposing it to the correct notes when looking at the score since it is in concert pitch. Just make sure that you understand the instruments you write for, and what notes work, what octaves work, and how long they really can hold out a note.

I agree. This is just an awesome piece. I love those 2nds in there, with the dissonances occasionally.

I also agree about the clarinet part, but it still sounds good on the file. lol

Piano part is a little overwritten in a few spots, but other than those things, this is awesome! Really a great work :)

Thanks for posting!

@MathWizard: It actually is tranposed; I wrote using the "No Key/Atonal" key signature with Sibelius in order to create an easier transposing process. Thank you for the compliment and advice!

@Heckel: Thanks a lot! Which parts in the piano sound overwritten?

I also feel that I should change the instrument, after all the feedback I've gotten from my professor and here. I was thinking either the violin or the oboe... I don't know, what do you see?

Well, I think it should be a Heckelphone, first of all. :P

Naw, I think violin or viola would work very well in this instance, for sure. Oboe, even if I love it, it isn't really the right color for this piece.

As for overwritten parts, here are a few:

19-24: Solo alto against all that will be hard to hear. However, it is WAY too cool to scrap. I'd recommend having the entire alto section singing that, and having the solo instrument doing the doubling until the very end, like you had.

45-61: bring it down only 1 dynamic, then it'll be perfect :)

Other than that, I really have to commend you on this. Some of the finest work I've heard around here!
