Reverie Opus 2

Featured Replies

This piece was composed over the course of a week. It is about pages long for piano and I am very proud of it, however the program really makes it sound unmusical. This piece is romantic and some slightly more modern extensions and dissonances are used for effect. Try to learn how to play it on the piano to really learn how it should sound.

I just joined to YC and I was already impressed with the works by cmajor. Now these is a piece is really worth trying to learn on the piano.

You have potential. Keep it up.

Anybody else? Canzano?

Nico is in Italy :( I will listen when I am using my other computer later, this one doesn't have Finale on it.

Alright. Thanks

Can we have a MIDI file please? Or a Finale file compatible with earlier versions? :whistling:

I just thought that maybe I'd bump this to see if anyone else has any thoughts. I used Notepad so I can't export a midi file. If you're able to listen to it please do and remember it sounds a little bit unmusical because its being played by a computer so please try and imagine it being played by someone.

Wow good. I especially like the 2 last measures. Simple and elegant.

There are some very good thematic ideas that I would have loved to hear unfold, but I was left unsatisfied. Yet very good.

I have to disagree with blue. I think the last two measures totally destroyed it.

Why is that?

Because you had such an original beginning and approach to it, that the cliche cadence at the end just ruined it.

It isn't really a cadence. It's just the I chord being played. But I really do like this ending simply because it concisely, simply and gently allows this quite tense piece of music to rest without, in my opinion, disturbing the mood and feel that preceded it.

It's a cadence.

And I apologize for my statement if it offended you. I didn't know you considered this piece finished. I thought it might still be open to suggestions. But that's the chance you have to take when you post something on a public forum, eh?

I did like it you know. A lot. :sadtears:

No, I wasn't offended, I just wanted to know why you thought the ending ruined it and your opinion certainly is valid. I just chose this ending because of its simplicity. I am open to criticism but I am reluctant to change the piece even if someone sees eye to eye with me about something that I think can be improved. I guess we have different tastes or ideas about the importance of musical originality. Thank you for listening and for your comments - they did force me to think about my ending and I did question whether it was correct - you bring up some good points.

I may post the first two Reveries later. This is No. 3 from a short set of three - No.1 is in A minor, No.2 is in F major and No. 3 is in C major.
