Suicide piece

Featured Replies

I was reading the things posted in the shout box

and some of you mentioned death and committing suicide.

here is a piece on the subject.

*I don't have Finale but just notepad;therefore I can't post a midi file.

Seemingly set for oboe vioce and piano when I open it in Finale, but I'm assuming that you didn't intend for it to be sung because it is unsingable.

You should read the pinned rules regarding how to submit a piece. Basically, we all like a little more information to give us some context before commenting.

1. Please post at least a midi. You can post Sibelius/Finale files.

-If any one be so kind to post a midi.

2. Post complete works or movements. Partial works go in the writers block forum.

-It is a piece in one movement

3. Post one composition per topic. This ensures a proper review of your work.

Here is the midi.

Lol, hillarious. But seriously, sad news about your friend. Rather than writing music, perhaps reading poetry might console you? I suggest you read Tennyson's "In Memoriam", has some wonderful passages about grief, loss, and longing - also about a man who lost a friend while young...anyway, just a suggestion!

In regards to your music....see above post.

I studied atonal music for 4 years and these piece is actually one of the greatest in this genre though I did hear some elements of tonalism. I think I will give you a 9.8

very intersting . Great harmonies and great use of permutational variation. You are a very gifted composer.

Keep writing.

I have loaded it into Finale, and Finale sees the following instrumentation:

Instrument 1

Oboe

(unnamed) bass clef

Voice

(unnamed) bass clef

Piano

All of the above are set to an oboe sound, and of course, much of it is out of the range of that instrument. The problem may verywell be with Finale so I need your help in explaining what the actual instrumentation should be. Though I'm by no means an expert on atonal music, I would have some comments, some of which might surprise you. But I need much more information about the performance requirements (instrumentation, dynamics, etc.) before I could make much sense of this.

(javileru) wrote this piece...

It was written for two pianos, (one without a bass line), and oboe.

The dynamics are free for interpretation except on the last part where there is a decrescendo.

Then why is it originally posted under Matthew's name? Are you the same person?

yes indeed...I was trying to play a little foolish game, but now it's over.

There really is nothing funny about committing suicide.

Schoenberg who founded the atonal revolution said the music would be around for the next thousand years. While this might not be the case, the music I just heard reminded me of

a verse that Tennyson wrote in his poem the, "Miller's daughter"

"The phantom of a silent song,

That went and came a thousand times."

So many permutations. I suppose sometimes there are too many permutations and not enough precepts... Isn't that right Mr Upstart? :P

Intersting...I need to read the poem then lol...
