Serenata for solo harp

Featured Replies

There's a little story behind this piece - and it is also my submission for the May competition. I had been invited to a friend's birthday gathering but couldn't go and offered to get her a present instead, to which she commented that she was 'expecting some music'. So I set to work and this piece is the result. It is comprised of four sections: Aria, Nocturne, Cantilena and Ricercar, which are played without a break. The style is intended to be a modern type of serenade for a small audience, hence the 'nocturne' movement which shows influences of Ligeti. The Cantilena is a softer dance in the centre of the piece, whilst the Ricercar is a toccata in which all the important motifs are recalled and developed. Running time is 9 mins.

It is a very strange piece. I am not sure of what to say of it, but it kept my interest in a weird way.

By the way, you better make a new recording or correct the section at 05:06, because there's a huge windows error sound bursting through. It scared the scraggy out of me. xD
