Any Schools That Don't Require Performance?

Recommended Posts

just learn the basics of instrument of choice.I think it should matter how well the melody, harmony, or whatever rather if you can play a song.I dont know the piano but I can write on but the only reason I have more controll for it is because my background in violin and music class.Even then I suck at the violin but I can write music on it and perform it eventhough it sucks. It is the musician who should be able to play it the best not you even though you have to know or look like you know what you are playing in my opinion.

Indiana has an option not to audition. I personally believe you can be a good a composer without playing an instrument, so we shouldn't have required auditions. But they're just looking to see that you can play an instrument, from what I've heard, it's not that serious in most places. However, there are some good performance schools that don't have the best composition studios, and those schools tended to overemphasize the performance. I personally think colleges would be stupid to say that you have to accepted by your instrument department, because that's not your major, and you're competing against people who spend the amount of time we compose practicing, so we have to work at least twice as hard to get into those schools, and so I have avoided those schools. There are some good schools that do that though (Michigan State comes to mind) so just know the school. I'm trying to find schools that fit my philosophy, so I'm airing towards schools that don't require an audition, like Oberlin, Indiana State, I think Boston Conservatory and CCPA too, I'll have to double check. but don't worry too much about auditions, most schools just want to know you can play something
