Fugue Troubles

Featured Replies

Hello! I have been practicing writing counterpoint for most of the summer, just free-form contrapuntal musical ideas that never got completed. This month, I tried to take it to the next step by writing fugues. However, I usually get bored with the subject immediately after the exposition, so I decided to make it a double fugue. Most of you would think, "A double fugue? Developing two subjects simultaneously must be harder than one!" However, it is not.

So, I'm working on this double fugue and after the first two expositions the two treble voices take the stage and the bass voice devolves into a lonely half note accompaniment. I have rewritten it many times, but the same thing happens again and again. How do I stop this?

Thank you!

use more notes in the bass part, then

you can make it a pause, then use the two remaining voices in a stretto, episode or canon, then make a bass entry with the subject.

It's kind of difficult to give opinios if we don't have any score or even the audio... =/

Sorry about that, it's just kind of a general thing that happens in most of my unfinished works. I could probably post something, but it will have to be later.
