Variations For Piano

Featured Replies

I challenge you to write a set of variations on this beautiful theme by R. Schumann! I would've included the chord symbols, but that would make it too easy for you. :P

I would like to request some judges, if possible.

Anyways, the requirements are no less than 5 variations, it has to be for piano, and you must include 2 other keys: one minor, one major. Deadline is whenever. Enjoy!

(Note: I also will be competing. Mwahahahaha!)

Judges:
1. Stirling_Radliff
2. OmarSanchez
3.

Competitors:
1. ccolson39
2. Sonataform
3. DanJTitchener

I'll compete, bring it on!   What piece is this btw?

This is the first 16 bars of Albumlatter, Op. 124. Thanks for joining!

Yea, sounds like fun. I love variation form.

I'll be a judge!

Okay, thank you!

Hmm... tempting. I'll let you know my final decision in a few hours / days / weeks / whatever....

Changed deadline to July 15 because Sonataform is judging his competition's entries.

Hmm.. this is a competition which I'm tempted to enter!
I had another set of variations in mind, but I shall take up this challenge first.

Beware my stubbornly classical submission.

Changed deadline to July 30 because of the lack of submissions.

Thanks, I haven't been able to work on mine yet.

A further two weeks should give me enough time!

Oops... I forgot about this completely. I'll also do my best to submit something by the deadline ;)

After this competition, if enough people participate and enjoy it, what about a general variation competition?
People could pick the theme/s they want to write for. Just an idea :)

  • Author

That would be a good idea. Too bad I'm learning that I don't like variations form too much :P

I can be a judge, if you still need one. :)

  • Author

Yes, one more judge would be perfect! Thanks, OmarSanchez.

How's everyone's variations coming? I've got at least 5 variations, but my piece just doesn't seem complete yet.

  • Author

I have about two half-baked variations and I'm testing out ideas for the next one. I'm titling mine "5 hilariously short variations".

Sounds good, since you're in charge of the competition don't feel obligated to keep the deadline as far as I'm concerned. ;)

Actually more obligated, believe it or not :P

Sorry guys, but I'm going to have to withdraw. I can now confidently say that I hate variations form! :P

Well, my piece is done. Just working out the details.

Behold! My entry: http://www.youngcomposers.com/music/listen/6726/Impromptu%20Variations%20on%20a%20Theme%20of%20Schumann

Your entry is beholden. It is also the only one to be submitted before the deadline. Deadline changed to "whenever".
