An Idea To Move Things Around (A.k.a. Top 3)

Recommended Posts

So, here's an idea, a suggestion that might make things more exciting here:

- Every month, this site would make a Top 3 out of the things which were posted in the referred month.

For example: Hey, it's August! Let's look at some posts from July and choose three of them as the July Top 3!

- These 3 chosen posts would receive a nice/bigger/deeper review from the Reviewers.

- The Top 3 would have a space somewhere in this forum, like a thread in "Competitions" or something.

Now, here are some important things about this, as well as some flexible points for us to think about:

- The Top 3 doesn't need to be hierarchically put, like 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, but just as the three posts that caught Reviewers' attention.

- It doesn't need to be called "Top 3", as it highly suggests competition and hierarchy.

- We can decide wether the posts are only music or any kind of post (threads, status update). (I particularly like it this other way)

- For this idea not to be so time-consuming for the Reviewers, they could divide themselves in groups, pairs or individually (I don't really know how many of them are still out there), so that each group/pair/individual would be in charge of each month. This "being in charge" could mean just writing the review (and the whole body of reviewers would choose the Top 3), or this sole individual could do all the job by himself/herself when his/her month arrives.

Why do I think this could be a good idea?

Because people would have some return to their works, somehow. It may happen sometimes that some composer post something brilliant, but it's not suitable for a current competition, so 1 or 2 people may comment on it and it will fall into oblivion. This new "Top 3" idea is an oportunity for those guys to have some spotlight.

So, what do you guys think? :D

Not a bad idea.  Potentially solves the problem where you post a piece, someone posts five minutes later in the same category, you get bumped and your piece never gets reviewed.

I guess the question is how much content we all generate in a month, and whether the reviewers would be willing to pick through it all.

That's the idea! And this is my suggestion^^

As for the amount of content we produce... I really don't hae numbers for it. That's why I believe that not only posted music could count, but also threads and replies.

On the other hand, this could work as a stimulus for people to post music more often, right?

Reviewing things is already a daunting task (I have no longer been able to review virtually everything coming my way, as I used to). Also, I have a personal tendency to focus mostly on keyboard, chamber and orchestral music, so I'm leaving the pop-rock, jazz, vocals and/or game music folders virtually unattended. I guess this bias applies to other reviewers as well, so we might be collectively guilty of leaving worthy pieces out of the discussion just by ignoring them altogether.

Nevertheless, I think this is a nice idea to push things forward.

I think that's a great idea! And I agree that it would be better if the three posts aren't put in an order or get the first/second/third place. I don't really get how you imagine to review status posts or threads though. The better option is to just stick to musical pieces in my opinion. Or perhaps make a special top three for threads or status updates.
