Hello all.  Finally got round to joining a group like this!

It looks like I might be a late starter, judging by all the whipper snappers round here :)  Rather than young I would describe myself as inexperienced!

I joined to try and get some feedback on my works, and learn from others - I seem to learn a lot just by listening to music and trail and error.  I've no formal compositional training, although I was a "professional" army musician for the best part of 12 years, finding that I muddle through most of the time, although the lack of theory knowledge can pose a few problems when trying to work through problematic areas.  I enjoy arranging and composing, recently completing my first original work (rather than arrangement).  I managed to get a live recording which I've linked up here - any feedback would be fantastic (good and bad)

I hate to say it, but I try to write music in a way that I would enjoy playing and listening to..that's pretty much my criteria.

I look forward to spending some time in here, although I tend to be quite slow at producing stuff.

Thanks again

Aaron

Welcome to YC Ron. I think i reviewed this composition you speak of earlier, it's also good to see that we will have another forum user. You should post some of you're arrangements. i would like to see them!

I do a lot of arranging as well, and actually i make a lot less compositions than i should :(

Don't worry i do the same thing. you'll often find that my pieces have very fun double reed parts. :P

I'll certainly post a few of my arrangements.  Composing is so much harder as you have a blank canvas so to speak.  Messing around with christmas music, I found, was a great way to cut my teeth trying to make old well known tunes sound different - plus I got sick of playing the same old rubbish arrangements
