January 1, 20179 yr Here is a piece I wrote in response to ChristianPerrotta's call for solo recorder music. I apologize in advance for any oddities in the score. I attempted to make it look as good as possible while trying to use a particular notation program that I don't think I'll ever go through the trouble of using again. Thanks for listening, and although it's not relevant to the music, happy New Year! Edited January 2, 20179 yr by fishyfry Fixed audio
January 1, 20179 yr This is one of the best things I've heard here on this site for a solo instrument. You've managed to provide a lot of harmonic terrain for the player to engage in. I hear modal transgressions which are very welcome whenever they occur, though judiciously used. It is natural and organic, you would have been a contender for the theme and variations contest.
January 1, 20179 yr Author Thanks a lot, @Ken320! I'm really glad you seem to think I was successful in what I was trying to do, and I'm flattered by your compliment. The last few months have been filled with distractions, but I think it's about time I started actively composing and contributing to these forums again.
January 7, 20179 yr An interesting work, I like the modal flavor. In my opinion the piece exploits too much the lower, muffled register of the instrument and thus sacrifices the fuller upper register. Nonetheless a great work! Which program did you use for the score?
January 9, 20179 yr Author @Emiliano Manna I'm glad you liked the piece! My natural tendency with woodwind instruments is to write lower than might be normally expected, I think because I have an irrational fear of a pinched, shrill sounding high register that doesn't really exist with a good player. You're right that the instrument is unnaturally low here too much of the time. I used an app called Symphony Pro for iPad. I quite liked the functionality of it, but it was very difficult to engrave as cleanly as I normally like.
