Thanks Bob!

I think this is a very well constructed piece. The themes are very clear and are used in varying ways.

Your use of different textures keeps the piece interesting.

Everytime I say this, I feel like it's a copout, but here it is anyway: As with most altonal/serial music I don't think you can truly understand the piece without experiencing a live performance (hopefully in person). I think this piece has a lot of expressive content and would work well if played by very sensitive musicians. Also without knowing the specifics of the inspiring subject, I believe that the prevailing mood is appropriate for the title.

That being said, I don't think you intend to this to actually be performed. I imagine that's why you have a "special oboe" disclaimer preceding the impossible oboe passage. Also some of the figures in each instrument would be crazy to attempt to play.

I like this. Like I said, I wish I could hear a live performance.

Is this supposed to be programmatic? Does it describe a story? If so I could imagine the last oboe squeal represent something dreadful.....

I like the quarter notes at 3:33 on the midi..... lol

again at 4:06

the special oboe was made to reinforce the weak sound of the bassoon for the midi/finale file. Still, I think that my goal is to create a super oboe that could reach those low notes or find another instrument lol.

If could get my piece performed, then sure I ll make a recording for you.

That's why I like the EWI (Electronic Wind Instrument). Of course, the sounds are midi generated, but it plays like a woodwind instrument and has like a 30 ocatve range.

Well, maybe not 30...

I'm just being sloppy about removing my attachments :)

Sorry Jav ;)

no prob...thank you bob

Super oboe? Try bass oboe. Holst scored for it :D

Holst wrote for the Heckelphone rather than the bass oboe (oboe baryton) as the London Symphony Orchestra at the time owned a Heckelphone. It is also believed that Vaughan Williams did likewise.

The only potential problems are thus:

1) They wrote for the Heckelphone thinking that it was a bass oboe

2) They didn't know the differences between the two instruments

3) They were told that the Heckelphone was indeed a bass oboe

4) When playing a part that really is for Heckelphone on a bass oboe, you won't hear what the composer intended

Anyway, not wanting to overcrowd the topic with barely relevant material I shall stop there!

Now to invent this 'super oboe'...
