Romance for Violin, Cello & Orchestra

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

first of all, let me say that you have a wonderful site here, a very nice place where we composeres/musicians can share our work and hear the opinion of other musicians. This is my second post but I believe that many are sill yet to come :innocent:

I'm posting here my Romance for Violin, Cello & Orchestra.

Violin and Cello play the leading role in this piece, although it cannot be seen as a concerto for an instrument but as being part of a musical speech.

The main theme, introduced by the Violin and then by the Cello, appears along the piece with rythmic and melodic variations. It is essentially written in the classical period format and style although the orchestration shows traces of the romantic period.

This is breathtaking.

Very expressive - especially the solo violin and cello. What a beautiful opening theme! I like the counterpoint between Cello/Violin around 1:49. The "tutti" section at 4:30 is wonderful - although there seems to be a little too much reverb here, causing the paint on the canvas to run just a hair.

The opening few minutes brought a tear to my eye. Very nice, impressive work. I liked all of it.

you know why you weren't touched? Because it was a machine! A bloody fuckin machine! Computer sequencers are good at giving you a general idea of a tune, but expression is for flesh and blood, human beings like you and me and...her who composed this tune :P

Anyway, nice piece :D Props.

Yes, this is very nice but if I might echo an earlier comment, cut the reverb back a little and give violin and cello a little more presence. As it is, it sounds very romantic with this cathedral acoustic but that does blur the harmony in places and (in some ways) attenuates the drama of the climax. The soring sounds pretty competent and you've handled the tutti very well otherwise.

It does smell a bit of film and I was reminded of the mood of Morricione's score for Sepolta Viva but you seem to have found a voice slightly different.

ooo I love this piece!

I think music can be either communication or self expression.

Parts of this piece really pulled my emotions, the beginning especially, I think the reverb blurs some stuff a little too much but in some parts the reverb just makes it so beautiful, if you cut it some, don't cut it too much.

Allow me to compliment you by letting you know I also think it sounds like film music! If something is good to listen to and also sounds like film music that is awesome! And this was very good to listen to!!!

Just wanted to express my enjoyment of the piece... I agree that it has a little Morricone flavor - but that is definitely a compliment coming from me. The counterpoint between the instruments got a little cliched in spots for my taste, but overall the emotional appeal of the piece was overwhelming... making allowances as already discussed for the fact that it's a maching playing the piece.

and on the self-expression communication note, I agree that music can be either... but ideally the best music is both.

Nice work, BMiranda.

Although, I think this piece would do a lot better if you don't have that much reverb. It's destroying the sampling of the string instruments.

Anyway, nice piece :) Props.

What is your problem with computers. I agree that a real orchestra would sound better, but it's like you are holding a grudge against sequencers.

Taking a taxi may give you a pretty good idea what a fancy ride feels like but to really get a fancy ride, you'll need a limo. You don't get the fancy feel with a taxi, because it's a piece of crap yellow car with some foreign driver. So that's why taxis are crap.

Trust me, if anyone can get all their works played by flesh and blood, they wouldn't be wondering around this site trying to get attention.

I totally agree.

Beautiful. I envy your abilities.

In case you didn't already get the picture, I agree about the reverb. Maybe makes it a bit muddy in some places, but perfect in others. Maybe just a small adjust.

I would like to thank everyone who listened to this piece.

Regarding the expressiveness of this recording/music, everyone knows that even with the high quality of sound libraries that we have today is almost impossible to match or to get even closer to the expressiveness of a real performance. I dont' have nothing against computers, by the contrary, and these sound libraries allow us to hear our music in first hand instead of paying to a real orchestra to perform it, however, it's impossible to a computer and to sound libraries to recreate a cello or a violin soloist sound and all his technique. I had the chance to listen to parts of the violin and cello melody played by real performers and has nothing to do with the computer version. The same notes, the same dynamics, but....were played by real instrumentalists :)

Regarding the reverb, I totally agree with you, it's something that I have to improve in my mixing skills. Sometimes I tend to add too much reverb and it blurs all the harmony and melody, making the piece a little bit "confused" regarding to sound.

I will try to improve this matter on my next works.

Once again, thank you all for your comments!

regards,

Bruno

I loved the song. It was very beautiful. I totally agree with everyone who said live recording would be better but if you can make it sound good on a MIDI it will just sound that much better in person. I have a question for you. How do you get your music in PDF file like that? I would like to do that. Can you tell me how?

To make a PDF, go to "print." Then go to setup and change the printer to Adobe PDF, or whatever it is. Then hit print, and it will create a PDF file. Yeah, kinda weird, but that's the way to do it.

I like your ave maria.

Hi Tyler,

as Evan said, to create a PDF file you only have to send the print to a PDF Printer. If you don't have a PDF Printer installed do a google search on "PDF converter" and you will find several options (Primo PDF is free and you cand find it here). There are other programs, like Adobe Acrobat, that allow you to insert and delete pages from PDF files.

Bruno

I like your ave maria.

Thank you.

The Ave Maria will be performed by a real choir until the end of this year. I hope to be able to record this performance and then I will post it here.

I didn't find a topic for Choral music here so I have to check where I can post my "Ave Maria" and my "Libera Me".

regards,

Bruno

Hi Bruno

I enjoyed this work too, and i also enjoyed your choral pieces which were on your website. Please IM me about which synthesizer you used to create the recordings of them. I was astounded to hear it actually singing the words!!
