PDF files in FINALE???

Featured Replies

Yes. you need to have Adobe acrobat installed. after that the only thing you need to do is go to file/print and choose Adobe PDF as a printer. thats all. and it will ask you where you want to save it

I'm not sure if Reader will do that. It doesnt soud like it will. Try to see what happens.

no it doesn't show up as a printer, which is odd, becasue it opens up pdf files, any ideas on where to get this acrobat thing?

You buy it in a store or from adobe.com.

Or you can send the .MUS to a member with Acrobat who will do it for you (Marius or myself for example)

Or you can go online, I'm sure there are PDF making sites.

:) really, oh that would be so nice of you wow, how kind. Actually ummm - i need to get a piece pf music via email to someone that doesn't have Finale.

Well, if you need it, PM it to me exactly how you want it and i'll send it back PDF. If not, i'm pretty sure that theres a standard score format compatible with the two but I think only Sib. creates it. :)

oh,,, wait wait wait... hmmmm

I have Adobe Reader 6.0, will this work???

I doubt it...I think you need the Acrobat Distiller that's part of the full Acrobat program...

Daniel,

Actually, there are any number of programs out there, some of which are free, and most of which are MUCH less expensive than Adobe's product that will create pdf files. Many of them have free downloads that put a small ad for thier product at the bottom of the page or something similar - certainly good enough for posting here. There are even some sites that claim to be able to do it on-line for you.

Try fineprint.com or google pdf factory. I have a different one on my computer at work and I can't think of the name of it now but if you have troubles PM me and I'll help you out.

Once you install the software all you do is open up Finale or whatever you want to pdf - click on print as you normally would, change the printer to the pdf writer and hit print. Your program (Finale) prints to the software (in this case, PDF factory), which creates the pdf file - very cool and easy.

Yeah, I have a pdf-as-printer that I use regularly that was free (can't remember what it was called, though... sorry).

It is excellent.

I realize how ridiculously delayed this response is, and hope I will be forgiven for reviving this dead thread, but I have a simple and clear answer to the question, which there does not yet seem to be.

There's a free program (perhaps the one referred to above) called PDR reDirect that allows you to create PDFs from any program you can print from (like Finale).

You can download it for free here:

I've been using it for about a year now, and it works beautifully.

In order to get PDF files printed out of Finale, you need a virtual PDF printer. There are various programs which you could download, such as the PDF Creator or PDF 995 (the one I use - it's free and it has no watermarks or anything like that).

All you do is install the driver, go to File > Print, choose printing setup, and then just change the printer to the virtual PDF printer, and then proceed with the printing/saving of the file. It really works fine ;)
