Piracy

Featured Replies

That is funny. Stealing is the by product of someone losing something. Now, let say you are looking for a product from the 80's that is no longer sold, generally the restrictions on those products will no longer be up held and therefor not liable to theft.

That is funny.

What I was trying to say is in those cases it becomes like the rule in music where if the piece is 70 yrs old, it is free. In much the same way, if no one at all is selling the product then you are not liable; however, let us be reasonable. When was the last time an internet pirate downloaded a program out of production and only an out of date product?

I get it, but wasn't a the rule to 100 years? for all works of art exept for original paintings of course it's 100 years as far as i know...

A pirate downloads programs that are not outdated, because tehy are trying to sell them. some people may download something at home that most people dont eveb know about because they need it.

Your last sentence needs to be cleared up, can you do that for me?

I was trying to say that "professional" pirates mean to sell what they downlaod, so they don't download outdated stuff. But some people take intrest in this outdated software, and can download it just for themself.

Also, is there a rule that any book that was published over a 100 years ago can be put up for free? i read books like "romeo and juliet" and "dracula" from the internet. Does same apply for music?

Or does music follow the same rules as art? If the composer is dead, then who's going to get the money from royalties and such? I think that this is some subject for debate here.

Or does music follow the same rules as art?

Oh, we're referring to two different things here. When I was talking about pirating, I was only referring to personal use.

Now selling the software, that I do not at all agree with. If it's for yourself, then I can tolerate it, but no one should receive any profit from someone else's hard labour.

How about Foreign Software, such as the infamous RPG Maker 2000? Theirs no translated copy, anywhere, thirs no plans to make one, and, all the translations are illegal. Is it so wrong to stela a program that technically doesn't exist at all?

Well, it depends, If the program is copy righted by internation law, then it is illegal to download the product. If in the copy right it states that no variation of this product is to be sold illegally, then you are f***ed, so get over it.

As far as RPG Maker goes. I'm actually part of a forum for those programs. There's been a 2003, and XP version. All translated of course, but there's been a lot of talk about an official English version.

And I agree with the small business thing. Huge corperations, as well as high profile singers and song writers, won't even notice that their sales aren't in the millions for another few days. Most of their money comes from endorsements, and such.

well, i hate piracy, but i cant really cough up $600 on an allowance of $0. i will buy the stuff as soon as i get enough money, i promise, but until then, i have no choice ( actually i do have a choice, but not really good choices )

I think it'd be nice if developers of professional programs make "non-commercial" versions of their programs which have essentially the full features of the original, but must have some sort of unavoidable "watermark" that tags the output so as to show that this version of this file cannot be marketed. Technologically, it might not be possible at this point, but it's something to work towards. Without pirated software, I don't think I'd got into music composing at all.

Where the devil have you been all this time?! :)

Anyway

Without pirated software, I don't think I'd got into music composing at all.

Same here...heh... it's kinda funny - that makes this a debate thats about moral, good, evil and lots of philosophical things... im totaly staying out of it from now on... my brain is to "invaded".
