"Homebound"

Featured Replies

started off good. ended up: "nieeeeaaah". if you know what i mean. so it's not my best.

rushed it because of a damn migraine. but here it is, 4 days worth of work.

"Homebound" [soundclick]

enjoy.

It seemed ok to me - very nice. If you'd intended it to go on longer, modulation would be necessary to develop some sort of harmonic variation but as it is - fine. I was going to say a little heavy on the reverb but it is in the manner of film music so....whatever!

Nicely scored too. I liked the punchy brass.

Hope the migraine's gone! Keep well.

Beefy, I found this to be very nice work. With its very accessible, pleasant melody, smooth harmonic flow, a well controlled rhythmic undercurrent, and a few flourishes that added a sense of immediacy, it very effectively conveyed the programmatic nature of the title.

While your orchestration was mostly very effective, there were flams created by the trumpets against the strings at 1:18. It sounds to me like you have the trumpets stabbing at the notes rather than articulating them softer, or perhaps you have them playing eighth notes when they could be playing long tones through the melody. I can't tell which because of the wash of reverb, which BTW, I didn't find too offensive (but you could turn it down just a tad :glare: ). Anyways, it seems fixable.

Your direct modulation to D is a bit weak. It either needs to be set up harmonically (i.e., and not be a direct modulation) or texturally (your orchestration is a bit thin there). Because you are modulating up a whole step it seems to me that you need to create some sort of suspense or building leading up to it. Certainly, there's nothing wrong with it as it is, but I feel that the quality of your writing is such that I have a feeling you can do better here.

Congratulations, very nice work.

thanks guys.

leightwing, you're right with the trumpets. i mucked around with that trumpet forever to make it sound at least like vibrato but i gave up after about 30 minutes.

Nico, yeah, i think know what you mean. the whole piece was pretty random.

personally, if i could throw away any parts of the music, it would probably be everything except for that string passage in about 1:00 not including the trumpets.

thanks again.

hello beefy~

nice job! it was impressive, just like what they said :P um......

what samples did you use for it? and do you mind me asking what software you're using for your composition?

thanks.

i used vienna symphonic library and london orchestral percussion. yeah. i'm a big giga user. :P . as for the sequencer, i used cakewalk sonar.

Peter

I liked your very classic way, and the rich sound you give to the samples.

I find specially brilliant the brass sounds with very expressive cues.

Sorry for your migraine, Hope tht it will release soon

Thanks for sharing and hope to hear more from you.
