Freedom of the Press

Here's a tune I wrote in the Sonar 8.5 piano roll with some old virtual instruments.

Enjoy.

Another very good piece and a contrast to your lullaby. Plenty of energy and lightness here and you obviously have a command of harmony that upholds interest and attention with limited instrumentation. The variety you did introduce came across well and to me the balance is fine. Another good and satisfying ending.

I felt a tendency to think of it as music supporting a video of 'work being done', could even be the press/printers at work but it does stand alone well.

Quinn,

Thanks for the nice feedback. I’m glad to hear that you like the ending on this one (and on “Soft the Snow” too) because I love challenging myself to come up with endings. I wrote this one in response to a White House press briefing (remember those?) when CNN’s Jim Acosta was attacked by the orange puss pimple (Trump). I never finished the lyrics but here’s the opening verse in case you want to follow along (starts at the “flute-y” melody guide after the intro):

Jim Acosta was accosted by the president

By the yellow headed dirty evil resident

Jim he really kept his cool

While the bully played the fool

Just like his T-V show...

Anyway, that’s verse one, (In case you wondered, I’m not a fan of Trump).

Clearly! 😋

I'm trying to listen to more of the music in this section of the forum, so I just clicked on a title. Didn't know what to expect. I'm both bewildered and amused by what it ended up being. It's definitely playful and comical. There were a few moments at the ends of certain phrases where it seemed like it was ending and then it just kept going, so that threw me off. Other than that, not much to say. Hard to tell how good it sounds given I had to listen through clunky laptop speakers, but it seems like a successful end product to me!

KJthesleepdeprive,

Thanks for the nice comments. I know what you mean about those "teaser" type phrases. Truth is, that motif just kept popping up... I couldn't seem to avoid it. I hope it didn't get on your nerves. What are you gonna do when composing a piece that sort of just goes where it wants? Oh well. I appreciate too that the comical aspects came across. He is just a demented clown after all. I had to go to a minor key though because there is really nothing funny about Trump. As for the rather tried and true melodic phrase at the end, I can't get the words "Three - cheers - for - freedom - of - the - press" *thud*, out of my head.

Also good to know you had no issues with it being played through your clunky laptop speakers. That's very useful information as I'm pretty short on technical audio knowledge like how to apply EQ or get correct levels, especially on the bass end.
