The Devil's Dance

Ok here's my 3rd piece I made. As the title says, it's supposed to be a kinda dance, but it's up to you to say if it is or not. This is a 2 minutes and 40 second piece, but it took me a week to finish it. I tried to improve my harmonizing so give some comments about it please.

Their seem to ba alot of things I'm not really fond of, I don't know why, but alot of the time the melody seems to break awkwardly. Most likely, this is the effect your going for, but still...

Yeah I was sorta going for this effect, but I gotta admit, I did not manage it well. more practice for me. BTW by "breaking adwardly", are you saying that the phrasing is bad? Or other things?

Hmmm... I think in general it needs ALOT less repeats... Maybe some faster parts/slower more "devil-ish" parts ^_^ The pauses I agree don't work that well... Though the piano thing was nice... The octaves leading back into the main theme. It caught me off guard! I think you could take this main melody and make into quite a nice piece... But it's got some odd stuff in it now. Specially the instruments... I'd like to know what they are... They seemed a little bit of an odd combination...

As for genre... The melody itself seems kinda like a Hungarian/European Folk Melody... That's what it reminds me of anyhow. Seems like it would fit with someone dancing around in a bar and people clapping. You seem to have modernized it a bit more, and by modernized I mean rock'n'roll-ed ^_^ Aka... Guitar/Drumsets...

I'd totally take this theme and go back to it to try some other stuff... Maybe a mephisto waltz ala Liszt? Get some chromatic stuff in there? ^_^ Lots of ideas can come from this!

I think all the different ,maybe odd-er instruments you are using has a cool effect, besides the melody you're never sure what your going to hear, which is kinda neat.

I won't criticize your repeats, seeing as I like to get away with that too in most of my music (I'm sure you know)

Overall, neat tune, I would like to know what instrument was playing the melody, I coudn't really identifiy it (You probably did that on purpose)

It's good your trying different things (More and different instruments a whatnot)

Actually for the instruments, at first I was planning for using woodwind. But the flute sounds to warm, while clarinet sounds too.. er.. unsuitable? Since I was looking for something sharper, I was forced to use guitar harmonics. And I have to say, the guitar harmonics in Finale sounds way different from the guitar harmonics in real life. There is also a drum set, piano and xylophone. I could post a score if you guys want it.

Next, the repeating thingy. How do I improve that? Make more variations and less repeats? Or more themes?

Which part? Is it the one with accelerando? And is it a good or bad thing?

Yes, the accelerando. I liked it. I would just try more variations and have it go different places... Themes kinda start themselves in your head while you go different places... Then, once you finish with it, THEN try going back to the main theme and seeing if it's less repetetive.

Ok. Thanks for your advice. I think I'll remake this song after some time. Now I gotta let it settle down a bit first. Anyways, keep on commenting/criticizing. :P
