Random electronic piece

I've haven't posted anything in a while, so here's something har har har... it was actually for a "computer composition" class, and this particular one was done exclusively with a Roland SC(Sound Canvas)-55mkii, so the MIDI is in GS rather than the normal GM format. So here's the recorded version as well for those w/o the box, or Virtual Sound Canvas: OGG

P.S. I wasn't sure if I should post it here, or in "Incidental Music", since it does have sort of a narrative (don't ask me what it is though haha), and isn't too experimental really. But whatever.

By all means just me with the audio...unfortunately I can't open your OGG. Then again, if it's truly random.......................................

Well, I guess I shouldn't really say it's random - it just doesn't have any specific aim other than to sound interestin/weird I guess :wacko:. As for OGG, just search for "Ogg vorbis" codec or something, and find one for your player. I normally use Winamp, which automatically supports it for the newer versions.

Anyways, I've deleted all my other attachments, and now I can upload it :P.

Nope, this isn't such a random piece...in fact, it's good - humorous and a sight better than other music I've heard in this genre. I particularly like the rapid bit at about 15" - very well brought in; then the more pure electronic sounds at 25" - sounds like someone having a great time with some analog synth VCOs. How on earth did you do that on midi?!?!?

I also like the bit where the background 'shushing' sound takes on a solo, if you can call it that. 1'17" just after the electronic blipping stops.

All in all an engaging little divertimento. Nice rhythm by beat and phrase, and the way you present the 'episodes', then your sense of form in this medium is a bit better than mine! .The electronics have hints of Stockhausen's Telemusik and some of Berio's work.

If I ever get round to making a jaunty little video avant garderie, this is the stuff I'd use!

Thanks for the comments. I can't really say that I have any better grasp of these kinds of stuff (some of the parts I just impulsively make edits until it sounds weird :P), but it's a learning experience none the less. Speaking of which, here's the follow up:

Hopefully the last in this suite of rather pretensious sounding of "art" electronic music: More ambient stuffs, more drums too though

I sampled parts from the last two pieces and stuck them in Kontakt 2, and then made something like this. I think this one is probably the most decent one yet, and ironically it took me the least time to do. So there.

I've zipped it to attach the "alternative" version, which simply forgoes the bell thingies.
