Music Stands...

Featured Replies

Most of the time I memorize my music, but whenever I play I like to have my music with me in case I space out and forget everything.

I'm a vibraphonist, and last time I played, my mom complained that she couldn't see me hands or my mallets cuz the stand was in the way. Does anyone know of any good way to solve this?

For instruments like saxaphones, violas, cellos, trumpets, flutes, etc., you're pretty free to move about the stage, and then everyone can see your fingers. The same goes with harps and pianos, even though you're stationary, people still see you. On vibes, however, I have my music just above the top of the instruments, which completely blocks the audience from seeing what I'm doing.

Well... you can always project the music in front of you ! :ninja:

lower and flatten the stand to the same height as the vibraphone. Give the audience less surface area to see around...

stand ---> _______| ________ _________ <----- vibraphone

...something like that.

Thanks, I'll try that Robinjessome. Even though I don't completely get that diagram, I'll work with it:)

Maybe my newer, awesomer diagram will help...

you could kind put it by the corner of them?

Robinjessome, if you ever decide to quit being a musician and become and artist, DON'T.

But I get what you're saying.

I think it might make it a little bit difficult to read the music, but next time I practice I'll try.

_Mitchell, that's a very good suggestion, if it weren't for the fact that to my left is a flute player who likes to move her elbow a lot, and to my left is usually the end of the stage, or one of the guitar amps. Which I've been begging them to move to a new spot, cuz then I can't hear anything, especially when he does that friggin distortion stuff:glare:

Lol, I found that drawing/diagram to be rather entertaining. You should draw a musician's comic book, Robin. ha! It can be loosely based on your experiences in jazz writing and performance.

I'm glad somebody liked it...

:P

haha. I enjoyed it also. you SHOULD do comics. they'd be very entertaining. :D

It was a good idea. I tried it, but the manager at the place I was playing at thought I had done it by mistake, and almost came up on stage to fix it. My other band members thought it was a little odd....Oh well, thanks robin!
