How do I play these music files?!?

Featured Replies

One thing that is very frustrating about this website is the fact that i can't open many of the music files becuase my computer doesn't know those types of files. It doesn't know midi files, sib files, or finale files. WHAT DO I DO! Do i have to download something so it can play those files or what! AHH! PLZ help! lol. thanks!

If you have windows media player, you could listen to the midi and mp3 files. You can't hear sib or mus files because you need the software. But windows media player is free, and comes with all versions of windows. If you have a mac, I don't know anything about it, so maybe a mac user can chime in?

Wouldn't you just be able to use Scorch for the sib file?

If you have the Scorch plugin installed then yes, it will open .sib files in your browser.

PianoGirl - Your computer should know how to handle MIDI files. If not, it will probably give you a list of possible programs to open MIDI files when you download one. On this list, find Windows Media Player, then tick the box saying "Always use this program to open this type of file" (or something), then click OK.

Ok. Thanks guys. First of all, my computer can read the midi files...i think it was just acting up the other day. or maybe it's because i'm using a different computrer than i was the other day when i tried to hear the midi file. idk

I have absolutely no idea what Scorch is so, i don't know how I would use it..lol.

Yah, I have a windows media player and at least the computer that I'm on right now can play those files....hopefully the other one stopped acting up. So, would the only way i'll be able to here the Sib and mus files is if i had the program?

Thank you all for your help.

Scorch is a little utility which lets you view Sibelius scores in your browser, as opposed to in Sibelius itself. It's very useful because when you click on a .sib file on here, it'll open it automatically in a new window and you will see the score.

To go to the Scorch download page, click here.

While you're at it, you might want to download Finale NotePad (also a free utility) so you can view scores from us Finale types: http://www.finalemusic.com/notepad/

OK...i'll ask my dad about that one too. I have actually even thinking about buying the whole finale program thing so i could write my music out. hmmm...well thanks!

i have one last question:

if I download the scorch thing and the finale notepad thing, will I be able to hear the song, or just view it in score format?
