February 22, 20233 yr Hello everyone, This is what I've been working on for the past month. I hope you all know Rm Rizal(I think we can all agree his kintab is superbly poetic and his use of harmony is awesome). Here is the link to his channel if you guys never heard: https://www.youtube.com/@RMRizalMusic. Anyways, I made an arrangement on one of his older piece called "La Valse Bienheureuse d'Anna Sofia". I heard the piece when it came out around 2021 and still think it's beautiful. Since I didn't compose the material, my general concerns lie with orchrestration(balance, transcribing, "foreground & background"), variety in color and capturing the "vibe" of the piece. To me, It sounds very "Pixar-esque" and I wanted to go for that aesthetic. I also cut out a bit of material from Rm Rizal's original to pinpoint the main ideas and keep the flow of attention going. Luckily I was able to save it in IMovie, so I did some splicing to incorporate it with the current score. That being said, you're not going see that part in the current score I have. Thank you all. February 22, 20233 yr Hi @Setthavat, I open the link of the score and find this: 😅😅 The score in the youtube video is also too small for me to look through it! A pdf score will better option I guess! Anyway I will focus on the music itself. It's for sure a plesant listening, and I cannot give you advice on anything except orchestration since it's an arrangement and the orchestration itself is quite difficult to see with the small score🤣🤣. I will just stop and say I enjoy this! Thanks for sharing! Henry

February 23, 20233 yr Hi @Setthavat, I re-listen the music with the score this time. I really love the violin solo in b.25. The passage in 0:56 seems different from the score but I like those woodwinds, very lovely cute here! Each of them are able to reflect their own colour! I love your solo cello passage in that Eb minor section, great change of colour and key! You use the horns to accompany which is great with its serene quality. The reprise of A is great with its change of instrumentation. B.178's G.P. seems a little bit off for me but the coda is very enjoyable and successful for me with its quiet quality! April 27, 20232 yr Hi Setthavat! I think the score link you provided goes to a score which doesn't seem to match the revised score video you linked to. As to the music itself, I find it kind of meandering and aimless (and not very harmonically adventurous nor really giving much opportunity for very differentiated orchestration). But that's the fault of the original piece. But perhaps I may ask - why did you choose to orchestrate this piece? Was it for some kind of sentimental reason or as an exercise? Thanks for sharing! May 10, 20232 yr Author Hey Daniel and Henry, I know this thread is probably past relevant to you two now; I've been so busy with school and the recent competition that I've procrastinated on this for quite some(actually a lot) time. Thank you to Peter for bringing this to thread to my attention once again. I am happy you guys enjoyed my arrangement. Unfortunately, the composer never acknowledged my fruit of labor, but I hope that this arrangement will find its way to whoever needs it. Here is one more banger to listen to:

Sorry to hear you didn't like the piece. I was actually one of the early viewers when it first came out on Lionel Yu's channel(few years ago), it was featured with one of his other piece called "Debbie's march". The waltz struck me as being very beautiful, and I recently rediscovered around early 2023. No one attempted to orchestrate Rizal's work(apart from himself) so I felt it'd be a good idea to make history. This is also an exercise to hone my newfound abilities in orchestration, and it was great fun transcribing/re-imagining different ways to enliven the piece. So to answer your question, I think it's a combination of both sentimental and educational reason.
