"A very creative arrangement of the Grieg theme and Luigi's Mansion theme to let create ominous sparks! Great job here!"

AngelCityOutlaw was awarded the badge 'Skilled Arranger' and 5 points.

So I didn't exactly get in on the "bits and bangers" competition.

However, I did compose a mashup of "Hall of the Mountain King" and the theme from the 2001 video game "Luigi's Mansion".

Let me know what you think about it!

I find this really creative! I always find that freaking bassoon theme utterly ominous and it fits well with the Luigi Mansion theme! They combine together to create an even more ominous and creepy feeling! I especially like the simultaneous appearence of the two themes after 0:50 and that's skillful arrangement for a good counterpoint! I don't why but it reminds me Beethoven's Eroica Variations, with the Luigi Masion theme as the bassline and the Grieg theme the melodic theme and the themes combine really well and at the same time have their own voice! Very good job here and thanks for sharing!

Thanks Henry!

I was pretty shocked myself at how well the two themes work together. I just had a hunch they would, but when played them at the same time on the keyboard I knew I had to do this.

Hah! Nice one. Ein sehr gut Mashup!

What stands out production-wise is the assertiveness of the (note) attacks and the articulations are measured dead right. Superb production / rendering.

You obviously know what you're doing!

Bests.

Woah, this is really good. What a creative idea, I think In the Hall of the Mountain King is a perfect piece to create this mashup. Love the lofi effects you apply to the celesta, and beautiful usage of the theremin!

I have to say you have some good sequencing skills, as your recording itself is really well done. And most importantly, I think Edvard Grieg would approve!

Edit: Gave you a shoutout here.

I listened to the original main theme from Luigi's Mansion and I have to say, I like your orchestral arrangement and (I think) the celesta on melody much better than the original version.  The original has no richness in texture and is just really horrible sounding synths.  But your orchestral coloring and combination with Grieg's famous piece is really fitting.  Is this the original arrangement you were working with:

or is there a better version?

Also I noticed that your rendition of Grieg's original melody at 0:41 you have the lowest note there as a D.  But the way I remember it, although I could be wrong, is that the lowest note at that point should be a C?  Thanks for sharing!

There is a Celesta, but the majority of the bell-timbre melody is played by a music box

No, actually I don't think I've heard heard that arrangement and I've played through the game a couple of times.

The main theme of the game is normally orchestrated when you play the game. It is also hummed and whistled by Luigi throughout the game.

Not sure, but to me it sounds darker with the D note, so I'd keep it all the same.
