August 4, 20232 yr A study for flute and harp. Writing a set of 12 such studies. Constructive feedback is very appreciated ๐ Edited August 11, 20232 yr by ComposedBySam
August 6, 20232 yr This sounds very nice and modern! I really love the sound of the flute and harp together! I never thought of this type of combination before, but the timbre of each really compliments each other!
August 7, 20232 yr Hi @ComposedBySam, The youtube video is removed or something?? This one is very different from the previous one. The first and last section quite reminds me of Indian scales! The use of harp there is more like an Oriental plucked string instrument! The middle section 0:36 starts to be more in functional harmony with Eb major emerging. Thx for sharing! Henry

I was not satisfied with the dynamics in the audio file so i deleted it from youtube. I would post it again soon!
August 9, 20232 yr An interesting pleasant work.ย I noticed that the work moves between a tonal (at times) and dissonant harmonic/melodic lines.ย Maybe you may want to review those tonal resolutions and make the work more consistent with its non-traditional dissonant moments/harmonies.ย Keep the work more angular .... August 10, 20232 yr Hi Sam, ย Once again this piece is really good. Like this time this really reminds me of Debussy. ย Nga Mihi Arjuna

September 1, 20232 yr The harp part is difficult with quite a few quick pedal changes required.ย The tempo is quick and the harp has constant 16th notes which are hard to execute while also changing the pedals.ย Meas. 6 (B to Bb), 7 (A to Ab), 8 (C to Cb and G to Gb at the same time - quite difficult), 9 (Db to D and Gb back to G at the same time).ย I don't want to go through the whole video pointing out these difficulties (and it would be easier if you had included a pdf score).ย Other than that the piece is quite pleasant to listen to! Also, starting at measure 26, the first time I heard this piece I perceived a kind of rhythmic illusion that the first 8th notes in beat 1 of the bar were actually an anacrusis and beat 2 was the downbeat.ย This illusion persisted until measure 30ish.ย But now that I've heard the piece multiple times I've maybeย learnedย how to listen to it properly ... LoL.

LoL. ย Yep. The harp part is indeed difficult. I think I would write an instruction for the harpist to play slower (a slight ritardando) at parts where there are a lot of pedal changes. I think that would add to a subtle sense of rubato too. Actually I intended the rythmic illusion you mentioned. I think it would be kind of funny to suddenly change the time signature (from common time to 3/4) after the first 2 phrases to see how that sounds lol and yeah, it kinda sounds confusing yet natural.ย
