The butterfly's wind

Featured Replies

Hello everyone.

A while ago I composed a short piece called "The butterfly's wind" and I am thinking of revisiting it so i hope I could get some feedback on it. It would mean a lot.

Thank you.

Hello

A very nice piece of work. It has a pastoral and a bit impressionistic feel to it. I am struck by the set of instruments.
It is also a bit odd that the piano is treated almost all the time as a one-handed instrument. And on the other hand the harp on a single staff is also a bit odd.

Hi @Bjarke,

First I just come from your horror piece and it's fascinating you are in a completely different style and mood here! It's impressionistic and pentatonic here. This is a good moody piece, though I think using electronic instruments for the flute and oboe parts will be even more idiomatic for me. I agree with Luis on the usage of piano and harp here. I think in addition there can be more contrast of texture here, even if you want to depict the flying of the butterfly throughout the piece. Maybe have that flying figure rest a bit during the middle section to depict its rest and collecting honey? Otherwise it's a very lovely piece.

Thx for sharing!

Henry

Wohow this is so nice!! I love the way you orchestrated this. And well, it's itself quite a lovely piece.

It certainly sounds like a "butterfly's wind".  It has a very happy-go-lucky character to it and it sounds like nature's frolicking which is perhaps best envisioned by a flying butterfly.  There is much peace in this music and yet it has energy and drive.  The ostinati are long enough to not get dull and too repetitive.  And there are plenty of respites from them.  Also - the ostinati are passed around to different instruments giving some much needed interplay.  Thanks for sharing this playful piece!
