Quartet of the PAST - "Swing" (3rd Movement) for String Quartet

Hello @Irene Huang,

Welcome to the forum!

This is for sure a beautiful chamber waltz with swing rhythm in rondo form. There's nice melody throughout the piece with nice dancing rhythm. I particularly like in 2:09 you are having a contrasting minor section in C minor, with contrasting rhythm, mood and articulation as well. Overall the piece is very enjoyable and soothing to listen to.

The most amazing for me is that you play all four instruments of the string quartet!

Thx for sharing and joining the forum!

Wow great job!  The swing rhythms and very accessible melody with string quartet texture bring to mind Japanese anime or video game music.  I like your use of the falling lament bass (or descending line-cliche rather) with a quick turn around to a vi, ii, V, I.  I am curious if you kept the tempo steady throughout the whole piece so that the click track in your ear wouldn't have to be specially programmed to change tempo?  I am guessing that it would be harder to record this piece this way if there were tempo changes in it?  Thanks for sharing this wonderfully bright piece!

Hi,

Thank you so much for the kind comments!! This is super encouraging for me as I have not composed a lot of pieces and am not that confident in my work yet (will hopefully improve in this aspect over time!). Regarding your question Peter, yes I did keep the click track's tempo steady throughout the piece - it doesn't happen to have any tempo changes so that made things easier😂 For pieces where this is not the case, I program the tempo changes into the click track using a music production software to create, for example, a ritardando that I can follow in all my separate recordings.

Once again, I really appreciate the feedback from such amazing composers! Have a wonderful day:)
