The walnut overture

Recommended Posts

I decided to continue working on another piece called the walnut overture. It’s supposed to be a light, airy and bouncy song. Let me know how you like it. It should be finished soon.

Hi @Hc123,

It has got an interesting name! Why is it called a "Walnut" overture?

For me at least the first part is not quite light and airy when you use the trumpet for the melodic instrument. I'm sure a woodwind will do a better job for that! Also the texture is somewhat too thick for it. When you change the thing in 0:40, the tempo is slower but it's still not light there with the cello ending. The F Aeolian is quite a heavy key for me too! Maybe a D minor will be better if you want it light!

Light and airy is a bad choice of words, bouncy yes. I was envisioning some type of fall festival and walnuts dropping from trees also was on my mind lol. So I just called the walnut overture, originally it was dance. Your right the trumpet is a harsh in places.

thank you guys for the feedback!

Something I notice is that at 0:34 the trumpet has very little time to pop their mute into their horn.  I don't know if you have multiple trumpets and if one of them can stay muted while the other can stay ord. as that would solve the problem.  I also think the overall mood/vibe of the piece is quite melancholy and doesn't sound appropriate to the your intention.  At 0:40 with the low string lines it really starts to sound very heavy and labored - quite the opposite of "boundy".  But those are just my thoughts about the piece.  Thanks for sharing!
