Vocalise for Piano and Violin

Featured Replies

Hello, I had just finished listening to Rachmaninov's Vocalise for Piano and Solo Violin, I loved it so much I just had to write my own version of it. So, here it is. It is much shorter and has just a twitch of his theme in there. Just an insy-winsy bit. It really doesn't have any form, just a little something I put together in about an hour. I hope you like. You can post technical comments on it if you like, but I didn't really pay attention to the technicalities of the song. Oh, and the piano part is supposed to be boring, it is supposed to fully lend itself to the violin.

Hey!

I think this is a pretty cool piece. I've never heard the Rachmaninov's Vacalise nor am I familar with the form, but I'll comment anyway. lol. So:

The opening piano is very nice and is equally as nice when the violin comes in. In measure 5, the tie over the bar on the G sounds a bit strange. Thats just my taste though. mm 19 and 20 are also a bit out of place with the chromatics (sp). Actually, nvm about the tie over the bar thing.(On the second listen it sounded better to me) mm. 43-45 is really nice with the piano chords. :sadtears: Omg how on earth did you score the 3rd to last measure?? lol. So, all in all, I think its a great piece. Good job!

That measure is a codenza :sadtears: ! I just didn't write it in becuase I was too lazy.

I didn't like it... What's the main tune? The main subject?

The Rach Vocalise has a really gorgeous melody...

:P

I didn't put a melody in. I really just made it for ambiance. Although, the melody is present, it really doesn't go anywhere. I could go back and tweak it so that the song actually has a form to it, and I probably will soon, but right now I am already working on the second two movements for my Piano Sonata in Ab.

Ok, I have tweaked the piece. Here is the new one.

(The files are replaced in the original post)

Still not convinced about the melody... And I've just realised there isn't really a structure...

If you listen carefully to the Rach Vocalise... there is one... :shifty:

Oops... I didn't really hear that. I do now that I've relistened to Rach's Vocalise again that it does have a melody. It just didn't come to me in the beginning the first 2 times I heard it. And, sorry about the cadenza thing... I haven't gotten the feel for spelling things yet. I'm glad you found it enjoyable!

very enjoyable and relaxing piece! good job!
