Suggestions are welcome! (The tango being from Argentina and Uruguay, both former Spanish colonies. Gypsies from Spain (Gitanos) became part of both Argentina and Uruguay. February 22, 20251 yr Hello @Chemathmusician0510 and welcome to the forum! From what I can glean from the score PDF, you spend most of the piece on the dominant without ever resolving to B major (what I am assuming is the tonic even though there seems to be plenty of evidence from the D naturals in the piece that you might be in B minor instead or maybe just borrowing). Can you provide an mp3 rendering of the piece to give people a better idea of what the piece might sound like? Thanks for sharing!

February 23, 20251 yr My first instinct is - what mode should this be in? If a tango, then I might assume it's actually in four sharps. Try your left-hand motif such that the notes are F# C# A C# and you'll hopefully hear what I mean. Otherwise, what you're creating is simply a rhymic drone of sorts*, using I and V. Therefore, I think you might need to establish what mode you're in and correct my assumption. The title of your piece says Arabian, so I suspect you want to allude to the locrian mode. How might you esablish that? (Or, if not the locrian mode, then how might you establish what you do intend? There are, of course, more options than simply the locrian mode.) *I very much like rhythmic drones - too many composers go off on so many tangents far too often for my liking!
February 23, 20251 yr Author I think I alternate between two modes for contrast, otherwise the rhythmic drone might get too boring after a while. (the second mode only lasts about for measures 13 to 16 and a bit on bar 21)
