C.P.E Bach Flute Concerto in D minor

Featured Replies

Anyone one hear of it? Sounds great, especially the third movement, its my favorite. I'm actually playing the entire piece for my audition in March. Any suggestions on what to watch for or stuff that needs to pay more attention to? please feel free to add on. Thx, listen to some samples on Amazon music, just go to Google, and search CPE bach flute concerto in D minor Amazon. I think it should be there, again great piece, definitely you should hear it if you havent.

I love this piece! The 3rd movement is my fav as well. I'm not too fond of the second movement though. This is a great technical and emotional piece for an audition. I hope all goes well with you prep and audition. I wish I could offer some sound advice on what to watch out for, but I've never really looked at the score and it has been a while since I listened to the piece. But, in general, CPE Bach was known for his use of emotional contrast. His does lend itslef to a great amount of expression when compared to the music of other composers from that time period.

As you probably know, this piece is not a piece for wimps ;)

Its quite a firey and passionate piece. You can have a lot of fun with it.

Much success to you with your audition

Umm, the best place, you can just search online, like amazon, but I don't know about you, I prefer to go to downtown and to places like Remenyi house of music or the RCM conservatoire book store. So you play flute do ya?

Cheers

Hi guys, some of you suggested that you would live a recording of this piece, so I digged up some of my recordings, and found this. It's a audio file that I did for university application pre-screen. I have the full version of it, but for now, I only have up to 1:40 min marker. The Music just stops there and it loops, sorry about that :P , but when I get full version, I'll be sure to upload it. Please feel free to post any comments, either about the piece or my playing ;) Thanks and enjoy.

The Recording

Oh don't worry, I will post it, ASAP.

great, i look forward to it ;)

on a slightly different tack, is there any more CPE you can recommend?

Oh ya definitely, for flute, The C.P.E Bach A minor Sonata for Solo flute? Thats a good one, and many many more, but I'll have to find it for you.

thanks, I'll check that out

Great job! The scale passages sounded clean and even. Technically, I felt that your performance was very sound. The one thing I thought that was "missing" was the "intense fire". You may or may not agree with me. In fact, your teacher may have directed you differently. But, it was a very nice performance/recording. I can't wait to hear more. I'm not too fond of the 2nd movement of this piece, but I sure do love the 1st and 3rd :)

Good job!

Dont forget C.P.E.'s harpsichord concerti (the flute one is actually a transcription of the harpsichord one in D minor). He wrote way too many of them, but they're all works of someone who learned from a great master...

..now, if I could just remember who that great master was... bach... bach.... hmmm, can't seem to remember who taught C.P.E...

Majesty: Thank you for listenning Sir, it's a great honour ;)

Yes, the intense fire is missing, i can feel that, luckly, this is only a prescreen, and my real performance is on march 4th, which means the real Juilliard audition ;) There, I would HOPE to display more emotional elements, including that "Intense Fire" You have mentioned, again thanks for listenning and I look forward to post the rest of the C.P.E Bach, but first, I need to get somethings fixed. I hope you enjoyed it. :P

Zentari: Hi there, yes right the C.P.E.'s harpsichord concerti. I thought J.J Quantz taught C.P.E? didn't he? or was it..Frederick the Great? or neither? Sorry, history is not one of my thing. :P But glad you could listen to me piece, thanks.

Thanks Mark, I will try my best, I'll tell you the results after.

CPE composed music for Frederick The Great the king of Prussia - who was apparently a skilled flute player.

The 1st movement is so wonderful but your performance of the 3rd one is excellent as well.

The Flute concerto in A major by CPE Bach is also a good one - try to find a recording and listen to the last movement.

Good luck!
