Two melodies

Featured Replies

Even a single word like "awful" or "nice" will be extremely useful to me in the special case of these two melodies.

If someone takes the time to drop a single line here, it will make me very happy indeed.

Thanks a lot.

Interesting melodies, but I think it goes no longer than a simple "melody". Dedicate a little more time on these because they are very, very short pieces.

It's a mere start, not a fully "composed composition".

I'll be back when you bring something new here.

Cheers!

I wrote a small piece for one of them....

piano.MID

Now this is a wonderful piece. Interesting, simple (simple is somehow better than complex), charming.

A MIDI is not sufficient to this composition. I can easily play it on the piano (in slower tempo, with more emotion) and it just sounds beautiful.

I would reccomend you put a name on it, because this piece is worthy to be remembered.

Oh!

I was so surprised by your vigorous approval of my little work that I checked your other posts to make sure that you are not one of those gentle souls who enthusiastically praise just about anything with the tiniest musicality to it. And well, you're not. That was such a pleasant surprise.

Thank you very much indeed! Your comments are very encouraging!

As for its title, I may call it "Fantasia for Arthur Reglay", since I wouldn't otherwise name it really.

;) Please, leave it as "Fantas

mmm, so what are you going to do with these melodies?

Lol,

mmm, so what are you going to do with these melodies

Let the plagiarism begin!

Schubee, I like the second one. Reminds me of one of Bach's Goldberg Variations. Please work on the second one. I don't so much care for the first. Are you goin gto leave it to piano music? I think it work well as a fugue. Well, have a think about it,

Hi...

Pravin, I don't plagiarise anything and it's rather stupid of you to say that I do when you certainly don't possess any kind of proof. Also you should have spared yourself the trouble of commenting on these after insulting me. It's hypocritical.

Oh, never worry about the title. lol

Dear Trout, what do you really expect me to do with melodies? :)

Seriously, I don't plan to do anything right now - it was just important to know if they worked or not, and as they apparently are allright, I'm satisfied.

Thanks a lot for the comments.

well, melodies are only apart of a musical work, are you ever going to develop your melodies into a serious piece of work? by that i mean a musical piece with a decent duration and displays a decent amount of technical mastery.

Schubert...

I'm sorry I can't help you anymore. PM me if you need help with understanding this.........

what do you mean by "worked"?

Schubert...

I'm sorry I can't help you anymore. PM me if you need help with understanding this.........

*sigh*

I do appreciate the attention, and sympathise with your desperation, but there's nothing I can do to help you.

You're *a little* amusing, but I'm not interesting in talking to you... Would that be clear enough?

there is something you can do to help me. What about writing something that actually sound decent?

I have listened to your piano piece already. Arthur Reglay said some really positive things, so permit me to be the bad cop.

1. The chords are random, the progression of chords are all messed up, it sounds to me that you are just punching random chords in there.

2. The thematic material is very weak, it does not capture the listener's ears, instead, only moments into the music, our memory of the main theme has disapeared.

3. Development seems to be absolutely random, the overall direction of the melody is murky at best.

4. Dissonaces, I think you are composing a tonal work. But, you used some reallly odd dissonant chords, which again, makes no sense at all.

5. because the overall feeling i got from the piece is a lack of direction, it shows me that you have not listened to adequate amount of music. Go listen to MORE music, before writing the next piece.

I don't want to be mean or anything, but you were acting a little bit... well, I think it's best for you to take my advices and work on your composition.

good luck!

"does not meet basic standard"

Thank you for the great comments! ;)

Actually, I agree with you, SchubertTrout, it's not the kind of pieces we tend to hear here, but Neno reminds me of an old student I had.

He's, I imagine, starting composing, just like I was a few months ago. I don't know anything about dissonances or modulations.

Everyone compiles their composing style sooner or later, it all depends on the person. What I meant is that Neno made a lot of difference between the first post and the latest version of his piece (it really cought my attention).

Take into account that I'm a professor, not a player nor a erudit, but I really appreciate that you, SchubertTrout, point the weak points of this piece, 'cause I can't.
