the middle distance

Featured Replies

Hey Folks,

This piece, "the middle distance" is the second of three movements for orchestra.

SoundClick MP3: Andrew Sigler - Composer Producer, and Arranger of music for Film, Stage, Commercials, Pop, and Rock.

I posted a piece called "Glock and Horns" a few months ago, which is the first of the three movements. The name was a placeholder and has been changed to 'the child runs, falls, and rises'

I'm interested in what you think of the pieces as seperate movements and as parts of a whole.

Well, I loved the first movement and this one is no different. The mood is a great blend of edgy tension and peaceful movement - very nice contrast.

Somewhat surrealistic orchestrating and harmonic choices help emphasize that mood. The orchestration is brilliant though, the use of the orchestra is extensive and expressive and I especially like the piano's entrances.

Your use of dynamics is also nice; the sudden swells are evocative and effective. My biggest concern is about its relevance to the title "The Middle Ground". Perhaps if you expanded more on what this is representing, it would be a little easier to get the message you intended from the work as a whole.

Otherwise, another fine movement. I can't wait to hear this altogether!

Hi,

Thanks for the comments.

As to the title, 'the middle distance'...The three movements are loosely related to childhood, adolescence, and young adulthood respectively...

plus it sounds cool:)

El Bumpo Supreme

it sounds great, I really liked the piano entrance. it reminds me of Danny Elfman's Beetlejuice. I also checked out other songs on your soundclick. All sound magnificent. What were you using for playback. Im sorry, but I almost always have to ask this. Any tips or book reccommendation as far as composing? Sorry, I think I have bugged this entire forum with this question, but im still relatively new to this composing thing.

Hi,

I'm glad you liked the tune. I used EWQL GoldXP and NI's Akoustik Piano for the sounds and Sonar 5 for the playback.

Composition books...I'm not sure. If you live in a college town, I'd suggest contacting the University and ask for the music department to see if you can arrange some private lessons. Beyond that, you should try to listen to music with the score in hand. I also like the Samuel Adler orchestration text...it's good stuff.
