Winter (Concert Work)

Featured Replies

This is a piece I wrote as part of a 4 piece concert. Obviously, it's the four seasons. I'll try and post the other 3 as soon as they are complete.

Enjoy!

Any feedback would be great.

I liked that, one of the clearer ones. Nice to listen too.

Thanks man.

I hate winter...the worst 4-letter profanity is sn*w....but others expressing winter....well that's fine!

I loved this piece, loved the way the piano is integrated with the ensemble - sometimes in solo, sometimes supporting the other instruments. Also liked the modulations and harmonic twists here and there. To me it expressed the sadness of late afternoon, sky a play of purples, vermillions, gold, with snow on the ground, and the sun suddenly breaking through at c 2:33. for a few seconds to 3:01. I get the same feeling with Debussy's Prints in the snow (though this is nothing like that work).

The scoring is magic. Keeping the strings low until you need to light the scene was great.

It will be a lovely concert work...though the ending seemed sudden (because the placid tempo and evolution of the piece. Just a recap of the opening three chords on piano alone is worth a thought.

I still don't know if it was a live performance but if not, it's a superb simulation and it'll work the same way live.

Best of luck

Thank you so much. To a new composer like me those words are worth their weight in gold. I'll get Autumn and Spring on here as soon as I can. :P

I liked it, it has some really good ideas in it.

I can here a bit of Williams (espacially parts from the strings of privat ryan).

Thats a quite nice work, keep up the good work.

The Ending is not perfect i think, you may should do something with it, end it slow would be much better for the smooth of that piece.

I enjoyed it!

I'm in love with this.

At 2:33, it builds, and I think if you brought that part back for the end and then let it slow and fade on that resolution at 2:41 it would be even better.

Bravo! I really need to know how you made this actual mp3... I'd be really interested to know. It's very performance-like.

Hey, thanks for the feedback. I'll definately be looking at the ending. As far as the mp3 goes, it's pretty standard I think. I just wrote the piece on Finale 2006 using GPO, and then I exported a Wav. After that I used a program to convert from Wav to MP3. Hope this helps!

Merry Christmas!

Jared

Thanks Jared!

So is that the Garriton that comes with Finale? I'm buying Finale 07 in a week or so so I'm very curious.

Well done, again!

Yup, it's the Finale edition. It's worked great for me, hope you enjoy Finale 07.

Thanks!
