The Kiss

I've just finished another classical composition for strings and piano, in somewhat of a soundtrack style.

This is my first piece in 3/4 time--I wanted to create a flowing, rocking tempo. I would love feedback on the ending. I'm not sure if it's too abrupt.

You can listen to an mp3 here. It was created using GarageBand (no loops were used).

I hope you enjoy!

it's pretty, and would certainly work well as film underscore.

the only problem with this sort of music is that the theme doesn't really give the impression of going anywhere.

even for something soft and sad, the listener needs a sense that there is "story" driving the music. In most classical music (ie: concert music) there is a form, a structure, that helps to delineate things, to give purpose to themes, to harmony.

For a piece to hold an audience's attention, it has to require a bit of concentration on their part. You can't hand the audience all the information on a platter, because then they lose any sense of discovery, of going on a sort of adventure.

I think I probably should have posted this in the soundtrack forum; it's just very sparsely visited and usually there aren't a lot of comments posted. But you're right in that this isn't a concert work... but I think saying it isn't dedicated is a little harsh; I did work hard on the piece and poured a great deal of emotion into it. Just because it doesn't have a lot of fancy orchestration or it's only three minutes long doesn't mean it can be brushed off as undedicated. But of course I'm a bit biased in my opinion :D

Ok, I misinterpreted your meaning of dedication. And you're right that love is a very complex thing... my musical interpretation is only one side of the emotions of romance. But maybe that's not the best conversation for a music composition forum

omg such a wonderful piece......could i see sheet music for this..i would love to play this song

I'll just echo the comments that have already been posted. It's easy on the ears, but gets old quite fast.

I recommend listening to Train Ride from the soundtrack to the film Spirited Away. It's a similar piano/strings thing portraying much the same mood, but there's a bit more form to it than in your piece. It tells more of a story, like Qccowboy said.

Very nice piece. I really like the sound quality of Pro Logic and Garageband. I myself use, Pro Logic. There you can actually create sounds :P

Anyways, back to reviewing.

Most of the things have already been said. But I miss a bit more dynamics. It is very atmospheric and nice. You kinda dream yourself away, but; I'd like to see at least a bit of contrast, a small change. It would make the piece much nicer
