Well Spencerbug0, i must say it is quit a nice song. Although the melodic theme's remind me of Pachenbel's Canon in D. I think it goes to far to call it a variation on that song, but have some similair features. The central feeling is somewhat the same. I can't exactely say why, giving the fact you didn't provide the sheetmusic. And calling the piano parts complicated is somewhat to flattering for youself, in my opinion. Anyway, like i said, nice song.

I'm not going to go taking this song, but just so you know, I'm pretty sure you need to do more than just put a copywrite symbol on the printed page in order to copywrite something.

As for how it sounds like pachelbel's, I'm pretty sure that the bass part that isn't exactly from teh canon, has the same chordal structure above. And I'd be hesitant to call this a canon, it's more of variation of a harmony, if I'm correct.

Other than that, pretty good for a first work.

Yep, this begins with I V vi iii.... like the infamous canon. But next I hear I V vi V....

Coincidentally I used the minor form of this in my Prelude.

Good piece. I liked it. Same progression, different melody. That is ok. Just don't do it all of the time. in time you will find your unique composers voice. Just one thing I don't recommend is hiding behind another composer for too long. And, unless you want a very harsh review from a very good pianist (me, and others on the site) I would erase that piano part being complicated. Not that it couldn't present a challenge to anyone, but it does have a simplicity that the Canon itself has.

Ok, on to the piece:

You seem to like the block chord accompinament in the beginning. The opening has ALMOST (ok... not really) jazzy feeling to it. But if that was what you were going for I am not going to stop you. The entire second page... from 15-28 and in other places... was boring in the piano part. You had one hand playing chords pretty much the whole page. Unless you were stating the theme, which was pretty solid. But could use some backing up from both hands at the piano.

Personally... the part where (35-40) you had both hands playing and the cello was nice. I enjoyed that and would have liked to see more of it. The end had a nice finality to it. Very nice job!

It's copyright, and yes, that's all it takes to copyright your work, with the only prerequisite being that you are the author.

Spencer,

The work is nice, but not very exciting. What's complicated about the piano part? The chord progression gets old a little fast. Of course, I really don't like the pacelbel's canon so I'm biased in that sense, but in my opinion music should move. In any case, keep up the good work and tone down the ego.

Oh, well that works too... But, won't one have to register the copyrite (sorry about the spelling errors before) before one can start suing another for taking a work?

In the USA, all works have copyright whether or not they are registered, and putting a symbol © on them is not required.

Dear god...when are we going to implement the policy that you actually have to spend some time on YC before posting anything?

Pleeeeeease...

I dont want anyone to steal this!!!!

too late, it was stolen before you even wrote this

which is...what I said.

He was just a one timer, what's the point anyway?

he's gone...

and that accomplishes..?

maybe not time, maybe have to have at least 50 posts before you can upload or something to that effect
