January 29, 200719 yr SoundClick MP3: PaulPoehler - Neo-classical, baroque music. General classical. Composed around 5 years ago or so. What the song is about I'll leave to your imagination - it's a dark/HR instrumental with a choral componant that represents to me the struggle of souls and victory over death - I didn't write it with that *intention* - but that is what I always think of when listening. The quality of sounds was limited to my soundcard's rendering of midi and what soundfonts I could find. Everyone I have shown this to thus far has enjoyed this, muso and nonmuso, so hope you enjoy as well. Comments welcome.
January 31, 200719 yr I Paul, so I listenned to your piece, and it sounded pretty nice. It kind of gave me that intensity in the beginning and I guess that explains the representation of struggle of souls and victory over death. Yes, it was a fantastic time!! :musicwhistle: The piece is very exciting, and if it were to ever be performed live something tells me that with some tasteful lyrics in places, perhaps it could be even more so (exciting). The only thing I can think of as a suggestion would be that it is very "exciting" all the way through - there is hardly space for the audience to breathe!!!!! Well, I daren't say I speak on behalf of a human audience. Just a snail's point of view. Also, I can't decide if a fade out suits it or not.... You probably thought about this already though. February 1, 200719 yr It would work really well for the concert opener: I envision HUGE pyrotechnics, a 20-foot Satan head, a 30-piece choir, smoke, lasers, the biggest drum kit you can imagine, and Freddie Mercury singing on top of it all. It has a VERY Queen-esque sense to it - the grandiosity of it all, awesome. I don't like the fade out....it'd be so easy to just stop quick on one of those shots. :musicwhistle:
February 3, 200719 yr Author Thanks for the comments everyone :sweat: Snail - agreed on all points. The intensity needs a rest, the choir needs lyrics and the fade out is a poor ending. It's been a long time since I composed this, but I'm sure the fade out wasn't an artistic expression as much as it was "I'm exhausted with this at the moment - I want to hear it with the soundfonts I found, and I couldn't be bothered finishing it". I don't see this being played live, ever - I've stopped shopping around for muso's who will play my band music - it's usually too difficult and too tight for them generally. Was nice to hear the positive feedback from everyone here, and that alone made it worth the effort. Thanks. :laugh:

I just had an image of Mercury on stage that, well, didn't fit with the idea I had of the tune. Niether the Satan's head, but haha - I did ask for people to use thier imagination! I do appreciate your feedback and am very pleased that you enjoyed the music. :) I've decided to resurrect this and write more to it based partly on the comments here. Thanks again all.
