GPO or GPO Sibelius Edition?

My name is Daniel, and I've just registered as a user so I don't know anyone yet!

I was wondering if any of you could help me with a small query.

I use Sibelius 4 but want to add extra realism to my final output. I currently use Kontakt Gold, but have just heard that the GPO siblius edition is due out soon.

Would I be better using Garritan Personal Orchestra as a plugin to Sibelius, or purchasing the actual Sibelius Edition. What would the differences be, and would I still be able to easily record Sibelius scores as audio files?

I also use Cubase SX 2.0 and may want to add the functionality of GPO in the future.

The critical part is whether you want to use GPO with a program other than Sibelius 4. The Sibelius Edition GPO will work only with Sibelius. The normal version would work as a VST instrument within a program like Cubase, but with Sibelius you would need to make use of the GPO Studio application that comes with GPO. While there's nothing wrong with this approach, it's an extra step each time you want to use it with Sibelius.

The big advantage of the Sibelius Edition GPO is that it's going to work with Sibelius with a lot less hassle. Hairpins will automatically trigger modwheel events in Sibelius GPO (in GPO, the modwheel controls the volume and timbre of an instrument). With the regular GPO, you'd have to put this in as a series of cc commands, though there might be a plug-in available for automating it. Patch changes will likely also work with keyswitches (so pizzicato and arco markings will likely respond automatically). With the regular GPO, you'd have to add those keyswitch notes yourself.

All in all, you are talking about Sibelius Edition GPO saving you a lot of time for integrating GPO with Sibelius. But as I said before, it can not be used outside of Sibelius since it doesn't use VST technology.

You might investigate whether there is a discount for purchasing both the full GPO and Sibelius GPO.
