Converting to MIDI

Featured Replies

Hey, I know people have been posting songs on here for everyone to convert from .MUS to .MIDI, but I'd really like to know what program you can use to do it, as I'm really new to composing and I don't yet know the ins-and-outs of composing software yet. I'll post my 3 composition segments just in case anyone's interested (you can even already convert them if you really want to!)

I presume you're using finale notepad?

The full version of finale can save as mus midi and mp3, and as monty will say will only cost you half your net worth! I think the newest version's about

Yes, I do have notepad, and I don't think I'll manage the cost of the full Finale... with my empty money box. Isn't there any conversion programs that aren't affiliated with Finale that have .MUS as one of the compatible file types? Well thanks anyway, you seem to be the only one replying to my posts, lol.

Cheers, CJ (Chris Hutchison)

I don't know of any such conversion program, as they're not like wav and mp3; two things that are very similar and can be converted with ease.

i think the only way's to get finale, sorry I couldn't be of any more help :)

The answer to the question really depends on what you mean by "convert to MIDI". On a mid to high level soundcard, it's usually fairly simple to record MIDI output directly into a wave file and then encode it to MP3.

However, using Finale with GPO does undoubtedly make the process simpler.

Finale Notepad Plus (not free version,) allows you to save a file as a Midi. The only problem is the play back sounds corny. Click on File, save as... and midi should be a file type option right below the filename box.

I have Finale PrintMusic, but I'm not sure if it can save MIDI files. Anyone know if it can?

I don't know about PrintMusic, but I had Finale NotePad Plus before I got the full version. Last time I checked the site, though, they weren't selling it anymore. I'm not sure, but if they are, I think it was, like, $25 or something...

Hi Christopher,

I hope this doesn't sound too much like I'm soliciting, but in case you're interested in getting the full version of Finale, if you're a student, teacher, or parent of a student, or all three, you can get an academic discount on all MakeMusic products.

Finale 2007 at Academic Superstore

Finale 2007 with Academic Discount (same program as without discount)- $239 USD.

Still not cheap, but much more affordable.

I've used AcademicSuperstore several times now, and have had great service and discounts.

Ebay works great too.

I've heard bittorrent are good, very cheap, if i hear correctly...

Heh, very true...

;) Three words: Finale Allegro 2007. It's better to buy the Academic Version of Finale if you can though. It has much more features.
