Dance 2 for Pizzicato Strings

Lasts about 1' 30"

It started as an exercise but got converted into a sort of dance/scherzo thing that I might use in a symphonic suite.

I'm a bit worried about it losing its way in the middle, seems to dwell on the same harmony a little long between about 0'30" and 0'40".

I haven't posted the score because I'm ok about that - less so about the general effect.

Um, don't try to dance it, though!

This didn't dissapoint me at all, to say the least - it was very entertaining! To me it came off as very darkly whimsical, perhaps even schizophrenic; this observation is mostly because the thematic material sounds, to me, like a bastardization, a clever and pleasant bastardization no doubt, of a national anthem. (or material that would be suitable for one) You're not opposed to nationalism, are you? :musicwhistle:

'Gather the music would be a delightfull contrast to a peacefull first movement of some kind- perhaps an andante or an allegretto. What did you have in mind?

Quite entertaining indeed :dry: I generally like pizzicato (and thus lots of Strauss ;P ) and I found this one very interesting. You could add something like striking some of the strings on the back to create a percussion sound to accompany the pizzicato, which would vary it in terms of sounds (it does get a bit tiring towards the end, methinks, but nothing too much). Also, I think you could have some of the middle part played really softly and low, like barely hearing it (as if you're trying to walk silently and not wake up somebody) and then go forte again or something, to vary it in terms of dynamics a bit more.

I'd like to try and dance that in tango style :musicwhistle: Nice job, melikes. Tell me when the CD is out :D

I liked it. It reminded me of a circus, with lots of clowns.......... Don't ask.

I didn't get bored at 30-40. I liked that section. So I'd say dont worry about it. I think the heaviness works well before going into the darker section. Sounded good. Keep us posted.

Ha! Well...schizo..? It's in 7/8 and very tiring to play, I'm told. I don't know where it would suit as a national anthem (I don't mind them except they all sound like drinking songs). Mars, maybe? :D

It's a very nice piece you have here mont. I loved the way you used the pizzicatos.. Maybe I'll take up a string instrument someday to learn how to make these interesting sounds.. Haha.

The harmonies are great IMO, and the melody is too.. That's all I can say for now.

Okay, now I'm jealous. :P I too recently wrote a pizzicato passage for strings and yours makes mine seem like something a 3 year old scribbled out in two hours (despite the fact I spent over a week on that one section alone!) May I have permission to use your passage in my work? If you don't give it to me, I'll just steal it from you HAHAHA.... Seriously, that was one of the best pizzicato pieces I've heard... from anyone. You still suck for being better than me, lol.
