luderart
What piece of music is the best expression of freedom or the spirit of freedom? It might equally well be the freest piece of music composed. I found myself feeling a sense of liberation after listening to the 3rd movement of Dvorak's string quintet opus 97.
luderart
Hello, Perhaps Beethoven's "Ode to Joy" is the greatest expression of freedom in music? I am waiting for your suggestions. Luder
Tumababa
Yeah... it's hard to beat the ninth.....
minhman13
I cried when I heard the entire ninth for the first time. I never feel so free. My favorite symphony of all time.
Marius
The interpretation of music is completely subjective. It's impossible to say that one piece is definitively more or less "free" than another because it depends on the person listening to it, their cultural background, their mood, etc. I, for one, don't find the 9th particularly "free" at all. Nice music though.
J. Lee Graham
If I were to think of music that expresses freedom, I'd tend more toward Debussy or something like that - stylistic freedom, unfettered musical expression - but maybe I'm misunderstanding the question. CaltechViolist
Copland, Fanfare for the Common Man. Also, this may just be me, but I tend to feel a sense of liberation hearing either of the two Richard Strauss horn concerti.

Nice music though. I agree with Marius. I was def. depressed at that time. so I guess the ninth did feel freer than other music.
