First Attempt at composition

Hi everyone. I am posting my very very first attempt at composition just for fun, when I was probably about 14 years old. And I am not exaggerating, this is my very first attempt period. I don't really need a critique, although you could write comments if you want, but this was me 10 years ago! I assure you I have matured greatly by now!

I wrote this piece with no knowledge of music, no knowledge of Chopin or ANY composer. I basically pulled this out of my a**. I actually thought this was good at the time I wrote it and I was very proud of it! I look back at it 10 years later, and it really cracks me up now. You can see how I was learning the very basics, such as learning how to create a melody and chords. Apparently I decided to learn how to write chords toward the very end of the piece. There is no structure really, and the ending is funny because it has nothing to do with the beginning of the piece and all of a sudden becomes happy when the beginning was semi serious!

I submitted this one for laughs, and I want you guys know that I had a hard time learning how to compose, and struggled for about 10 years to become the composer I am today. I still am learning.

Reminds me of some of my very early work too - a new idea almost every two bars, and little linking between them, and as for development...

Still, as they'll be saying when they do your retrospective on Radio 3, 'this as yet immature work clearly signposts the nascent talent extant in the young chopin'

Hm, Paul, I don't think he'd mind too much, but this is Chopin's thread. Posting your own works in it is kind of intrusive... you probably should have created a separate thread; also, that way your work would get more specific attention.

It's a little inconsistent, but it's pretty harmonically sound, not overly dissonant like some people's first composition. Some of the parts are actually really cool sounding.

I Don't mean to roast your first composition, because this will sound like back-handed compliment...

It is an inspiration to see this work back to back with your recently posted Scherzo. It shows that hard work and perseverence really pay off in compositional growth. Congrats to you!

In addition, this piece is not bad at all, it just sounds like.... a very early composition.
