Ride of the Lombards: My first Orchestral Piece

Featured Replies

It's not much, very small scale, barely over 3 minutes but I did it to dip my feet into the endless sea of writing for more than three instruments, I also tried to keep it thematic, basing both motiffs in the beggining and the middle, on the theme I wrote. The theme itself being rather simple, I was going for memorable rather than complicated and the feeling of riding to war (Hence all the percussions).

Overall, I liked it. The first half was very interesting, and nice use of percussion. About halfway through, when it went to the brass instrument solo, and started building up from there, it gave an interesting effect, but after a while it became a little dull due to the lack of change (for instance, the looped drum fill). I liked the dissonant chord right before you entered the first theme again at the end, but again this would have been more effective if there was more variety leading up to it. Nice piece!

Nice.
