A Lonesome Star

Featured Replies

Hey,

This little piece is my most recent piano solo, even though I wrote it several months ago, and haven't done much with solo piano since. It didn't have a name for a really long time, because I wasn't really thinking about any one image in particular when I wrote it other than the song itself. However, I think that having an untitled song is just lazy and cheesy (apparently some believe it to be clever and unique). Therefore, today I came up with a few names for it, and right now I'm sticking with "A Lonesome Star", which seemed to fit the music. I've gone through several recordings of the song, each one sounding a little bit better than the last as I learned more about the recording process. The song itself has not changed since the original recording though. This version I recorded today with my most recent equipment. If there are parts where the beat is being rushed or anything like that, you can blame it on the fact that I'm a clarinet player trying to play piano. Well anyway, tell me what you think of the piece, and bear in mind that this was really where I was skill-wise a few months ago.

Listen to it here.

wow, i realy like this piece. Specialy the contrast between the two themes. You should do more with these theme's. I'd realy like to hear it in sonata form!

Great work!

Thanks for the compliment.:) Perhaps I will expand on it someday...

Nice :) Very dreamy

There's just one thing... I think your chords are too often with the tonica in the bas, maybe you should place some other chordnotes in the bas.

And I think the left hand is a bit too low somewhere in the half of the piece. (maybe just put it 1 octave higher?)

There's a very small piece in your theme that reminds me a bit of a theme in a pianoconcerto from Beethoven. The 3th, second movement, largo.

Couldn't you post the score too? It's easier to comment.

the piece is good, you should make a sonata part of it, and use your ideas to the other movements,

keep on composing

I'm glad you guys like it. Sorry I don't have the score... currently it's handwritten and very sloppy-looking; to my knowledge Finale Notepad doesn't allow me to change key signatures or time signatures within a piece, so that wouldn't really work.:)

Lester, I'm not surprised you hear Beethoven influence in my piece... I love Beethoven and Romantic music in general. Point well taken about the bass notes too; I'll try messing around with inversions more to put different notes in the bass more often.
