Fugue on Isabeau

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I had variations on a traditional theme to do in my music writing and analysis class and I decided to write a fugue instead of variations (well I guess that's fine, isn't it?).

I guess you can't...find the harmonic quotation of a popular English composer (haha, there aren't much :D)

The piece had to be in the "Intro-Theme-Variations-Ending" form.

I decided to skip the ending, since the fugue ends well enough...for me at last.

It's scored for string quartet (and it's gonna be played, live!!!), until then, I made an mp3, but oh well... even strings player can't sound like strings!

I am open to comments, critics, gratification and errors pointing!

Mp3: Here

Score: (below)

Happy listening

IsabeauQuatuorFINAL.MID

can you post a midi so as i can hear it on strings?

I make a point of listening to anything to anything with fugue in the name of it, please, keep 'em coming! :)

I really enjoyed this, I can't tell you much about whether it's a great fugue or not as I'm still early on in my studies in this area. I look forward to hearing more of your music :D Mark

Here you go, midi + new mp3 (with string quartet!) + finale!

I liked the middle third of the peice the best. I really liked the 1st 10 seconds then got a littled bored until the middle. Keep on writing.

Okay, the harmonic quote was "Dido's Lament" in the "Dido and Aeneas" opera, by Purcell...Listen to this beautiful song if you can... even for people like me, who usually don't like opera!

The quote - if we can call such a thing a quote lol! - is from 0:36 to the end of the first part.

Very nice I happen to love fugues. It seems to me that you have created a double fugue (even better) with a introduction. It is very folk-like and mysterious in my opinion. Keep up the good work.
