Prelude In B minor No.2

Featured Replies

This is a short piano work that I composed about 4 years ago.

It's my second prelude in the key of B minor.

First you have a good sense of cords! The beginning of your song gets boring. I would cut out some of the beginning or modify it. The core of the song is good ,but is just boring. Spice it up a bit with some more dynamics, and time changes. I think that you could do more with this song. If there is one thing that I could say to you is speed it up slightly ,and then slow it down in certain places that you want it slow. There were certain times in there that I was wondering when you where going to go on. All ,and all good work , it just needs a face lift. Good luck!!!

I think you need some more patience when listening to music.

To me, the entire thing up until when the right hand started playing chords high up, just sounded like an introduction. When the chords came in, I expected something to happen, that the piece would escalate in terms of drama and emotion, and that the piece would begin to climax. But then I looked at the media player and realized that it was pretty much over. I don't really agree with Kismut about it being to slow- it would have been boring had you repeated it two or three times longer, but it just didn't go anywhere. Just because it's a prelude, it doesn't mean that it can't go anywhere. Preludes by romantic composers (who I assume you are trying to write in the style of) still had direction, drama and climax even though they were generally short.

:)

I just stated my opinion. Your not married to it. You can throw it away or keep it if you want. You posted it up here ,so I responded.

You can state your opinions...

Saul, you don't seem to take criticism of your music very well. If you keep this up, no one's ever going to say anything about your music. You could argue "Well I made the music and I know what's best," but then you just get on people's nerves. So, please, value criticism while you get it.

I would say that the piece in general doesn't really feel like it goes anywhere. Where is this piece building to? I couldn't feel a clear "drive." I guess I really can't explain. I would say add in some slurs in those eighth notes you have in the left hand on beat 4 a couple of times. The theme is alright, just make it go somewhere.

The ending seems a bit off-kilter. Maybe you were "going for that," but I would say that a good solid ending (not meaning loud, just solid) would give closure to the piece, because the whole piece seems to be looking for something.

I have nothing else to say with this music.

I post my music to share it with others . Not for critic though I value everyones comments.

i like it. it moved me... and i think the slow pace of it can reflect the way it feels like your world can move so slowly when you're feeling down. and despite how the rest of the world's worlds can move quickly, and that you might not be able to keep up with all of the moving about, this piece can act as your companion... because, it, too, moves slowly... and so it will do so with you. i think it's a nice piece to... release your emotions to. i would have liked to see changes in dynamics, to help reflect the intensity of changing emotions. :)

Thanks Diana...

But you're going to get critiques on the site no matter what even if it's just a passing comment. Why post anything?
