Sibelius support vst?

Featured Replies

hey guys,

as some of you may know, I decided to give sibelius a try with their demo version. its highly unlikely that ill get rid of finale because it cost me and my brother too much to do so. But i wanted to try sibelius so i could recommend a notation program when asked.

I checked out their demo vids on the kontakt silver and gold, but the samples dont sound that great. So I was wondering if sibelius supports vst like finale does, that way I can hear my orchestrations with good samples, and not have to listen to that annoying midi fart.

Um. any reply would be greatly appreciated.

Hmm... let me do some research...

(5 minutes later)

I don't think it does, says nothing about VST support on the Sibelius website. Too bad it doesn't have a full feature list, but if there was, they hid it pretty well or I need to have my eyes checked.

P.S.

and not have to listen to that annoying midi fart
that one made me laugh :P

Haha, Thanks for the reply,

I kinida figured out a way to kinda make sibelius use my EWQL. I set the playback to be sent to my midi yoke (virtual midi cable). But it kinda defeats the purpose.

Well, Marius said that it'll be pretty bad with all the latency, unless you have ASIO.

Maybe check out ASIO4ALL if that will help, but I have no idea what ASIO4ALL is , but I know its an ASIO driver.

Sibelius 5 new supports VST

Yes, it most certainly does! Though the new "Ideas Hub" feature is probably my favourite of the updated features. :) As soon as I get my hands on a copy, I'll let everyone know just how well it performs. ;)

Now it'll be interesting to see what Finale 2008 ends up having as new features, since it already has VST support and the equivalent of the Panoramic View and all that...should be interesting and should be turning up very soon...

hopefully,

Finale 08, will have an easier entry method. Their speedy entry is too confusing for me. i like sibelius's entry method. I wonder if there is any plug ins that would allow me to customize the speedy entry, because I like the sibelius demo, but I have spend too much money on finale to let it go. Also, Sibelius 5's idea bin is definitely gonna be a time saver. Finale needs to come up with easier plug ins, and make it a little less confusing, but its so powerful though, its like a dilemma for me.

If you like Sibelius' entry method, then use Simple Entry in Finale, not Speedy Entry. Simple Entry is very much like Sibelius' entry (but I prefer Simple Entry because it's more forgiving and has more shortcuts). Using the mouse is not required. You can use just the computer keyboard or you can use the computer keyboard along with a MIDI keyboard.

The only time I'll ever use Speedy Entry is if I'm playing around on a MIDI keyboard and am not sure what notes I want to enter. Speedy Entry is good for this, because you can play notes on the MIDI keyboard, and they won't be entered unless you hold the notes down and press numbers on the computer keyboard. But if I know what notes I'm going to be entering, I use Simple, because it's faster.
